Mists in the valleys warn us that autumn is coming. And with autumn comes also the autumn outdoor season in the Český Ráj Nature Park. Before we welcome our guests, the climbing sites must be well prepared so that the movement of clients on the rocks is safe and the precious nature of the Natural Park is protected from erosion. Outdoor Discovery is honored to be among the founders of the UNESCO Geopark Český Ráj. We are pleased that we could contribute to the organization of the recent Taiwan Geoparks study trip that came to us in Český Ráj NP. The educational interpretation of the geological heritage of the Earth - the very mission of the Geoparks - is also reflected in our programs.

Germans call it Riesengebirge, it is Reuzengebergte in Dutch or Krkonoše-bjergene in Danish. The Czech highest mountain range. While the immense layer of snow still covers parts of the highest, alpine ridges, spring has brought joy of summer adventures to Harrachov. Pics by Alena Lukesova.

Even though the sudden wave of arctic air that invaded the Český Ráj N.P. tried to disrupt the sports program, high school students from Denmark and Germany did not let their good mood be spoiled. We hereby declare the 2023 season open!

The last big project of the 2022 tourist season. The high school students from the Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, enjoy their “buitenlandse schoolreis” on various activity locations in the Czech Northern Highlands. And what they say? “Wat een fantastische reis met een hele leuke groep. Groeten vanuit Tsjechië !
If you are (unlikely) not that fluent in Dutch, here we go with the English translation: “What a fantastic trip with a really nice group. Greetings from the Czech Republic!” We do love our customers...

Environment Business Ethics. A term much misused in the promo-campaigns of the big companies. We at Outdoor Discovery give it the very, very specific content - every October. Over thirty instructors, guides and Outdoor Discovery friends meet to clean tourist trails, remove old rubbish dumps (...still hidden in the forests) and fix things on heavily touristed locations. This was the twenty-fifth year of the Autumn ČESKÝ RÁJ CLEANUP. Grateful thanks to all who came and spent the VERY RAINY weekend working free for the better and cleaner Nature Park.

Is the rock climbing eco-friendly ? Well, it depends. Due to the quick-growing popularity it may cause erosion around cliff bases and alter ecosystems. We at Outdoor Discovery go out of our way to make climbing as nature-friendly as possible. Taking customers to the rock faces on the elevated walkways (instead of sand-trodden paths) is one of the opportunities. Users manual : 1/ Sherpa-like logs carrying, full day 2/ two days work of skilled carpenters, 3/ cleanup, 4/ job done.

Hopefully, the last snow of this winter covered the country today. With the spring season very much in our minds we say goodbay to winter with the snowy pics of our favorite outdoor locations: While rare snowfall just gently blankets the Prague Old Town and adjacent Prague Hills, thick snow cover may lay on Krkonoše (…or Riesengebirge, or Reuzengebergte) peaks till mid-summer. This last pic presents sort of rarity: the Krkonoše southern slopes are perfectly visible from Český Ráj highest points on clear frosty days (pic by Ms. Pavla Bičíková).

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Over the past years our travel philosophy has remained the same: we believe that the countryside needs to be experienced, not just seen through a bus window. We take our clients to the rocks, mountains and forests – and navigate, bike and paddle through them – to enable our guests to immerse in the country they are visiting. We see the nature as the most stimulating environement for cementing any team.
