It's summer in the city and as you may have heard, we here at Private Prague Guide are big fans of day trips. While we love heading out of the city to see the famous spa town/film fest venue of Karlovy Vary (aka, Carlsbad), we do love checking out some of the more historical and off the beaten path parts of the Czech countryside every so often. It may be hot and hazy lately in the Czech capital, but that doesn't mean that there's not still cool views to explore! We love heading up to the observation area at the top of Vítkov Hill. As an added bonus, you can check out one of the coolest hidden gem museums in the city while you cool off from soaking up the sun while taking in this jaw dropping view!

Mondays can be tough, which is why we like to kick them off with some gorgeous views. There's nothing like watching the sun make it's progress through the sky over Prague's many bridges and the flowing, blue waters of the Vltava. We love this lookout spot from Letenské sady, or Letná, as it's often called here in Prague. We hope your days are just as beautiful!

On Mondays, we like to start off the new week by planning a bunch of new adventures. Now that it's finally summer, we can indulge in one of every Czech's great loves--spending time "in the nature." Here in Prague, it's incredibly common for locals to head out of the city at the end of the busy work week, making their way to cottages to enjoy the countryside. Even if you can't leave the city for days on end, Bohemia is ripe with great day trip locations--some even less than an hour's journey from the Czech capital! One of our favorite spots to visit for an afternoon is Karlštejn, which is known for its eponymous castle/fortress built by the famed Charles IV. While we love checking out the old architecture and history, the area is also full of natural treasures, like this picturesque scene! Can you think of a better place to while away a sunny afternoon?

Sunday is the perfect day for rest, relaxation, and a little stroll through some of our favorite quarters in Prague. We love seeing the city in all it's glory and a bright, sunny summer's afternoon is the perfect time to appreciate everything it has to offer! One of our favorite vantage points to survey Prague from all around has to be the top of the Astronomical Clock Tower in Old Town Square. It's one tower that does charge admission to climb, but trust is, it's well worth it! From the top, you can look out and see the treasures the city has to offer from every angle, though our favorite has got to be looking out across Old and Lesser Towns to see the castle staring back from across the river.

The weather has finally turned for the warmer in Prague which means one thing, it's time for the summer travel season! While we love each and every moment of the sunshine-y months here in the city of a hundred spires, part of it's charm is that it's so close to so many other European capitals. Summer's finally here and after a warm day, there's nowhere we'd rather be cooling off than on the banks of the Vltava. Not only does the river have some truly stunning views, but on its banks you also have an opportunity for fun--paddleboat renting! It's one of our favorite ways to cool off on a hot day or just enjoy the sun on a lazy afternoon. We love the views of Prague's Old and Lesser Towns from the water!

We love the late afternoon/early evening this time of year in Prague. Not only is the weather fantastic, but the slowly setting sun just seems to make everything seem golden! One of our favorite neighborhoods to take an evening stroll through has got to be Vinohrady. It's quiet, tree-lined streets and amazing architecture make it a feast for the eyes and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the historic city center. It's hard not to feel a wonderful sense of calm as you leisurely explore all that it's avenues have to offer.

Here in Prague, we always love King and Hold Roman Emperor Charles IV--the names of squares, universities, buildings, and yes, even bridges all reflect it. We're big fans of trying new, delicious foods, but sometimes, we just have to give into our cravings and grab a few of the Czech classics. While we normally focus on the main dishes in Czech food here, like goulash or roast pork and dumplings, there's plenty of options for indulging your sweet tooth when it comes to Central European cuisine. One of our favorites, for example, has got to be koláče, or sweet little fruit pastries. While the sturdy dough on the outside isn't terribly sugary, with these, it's the inside that counts, as the fruit fillings add the sweetness to these traditional Czech specialties. Perhaps what we love best about them is that they come in a variety of sizes and fillings, depending on the occasion and the region from which they hail. Here in Prague, you can scoop some up for yourself at most bakeries or supermarkets, although we recommend getting them fresh at farmers markets now that the weather allows. They're truly a versatile treat!
