Happy Advent everyone!

Since the 11th century, Advent has been the preparation for the Christmas season and begins four weeks before Christmas Eve. The most important day of the week is always the Sunday of Advent, when the lighting of all four candles on the Advent wreath begins. In the days of old, Advent was connected to popular folk customs during Lent. Traditional customs are connected with the most beautiful time of the year, such as baking cookies, making ornaments from dried fruit, nuts and straw, lead casting and telling the future, hanging mistletoe over the door and kissing for luck underneath it, lighting candles in the shells of walnuts, and building Nativity scenes.

The 17th of November, that is the the day which is most important for our generation, not just for Prague, Czech republic, but also for Slovak republic. When you were in Prague last years and visited our tours, we focused our speeches to Velvet revolution. Lets celebrate with us, the day when we beat communist, soviet power, made a step for freedom, made a step for better life. Beware of the Zombie apocalypse!

As locals we are well used to the test of the sirens taking place every first wednesday in the month at 12 o'clock. But we totally get how our lovely tourists could be alarmed. (pun intended :)

So should this ever happen to you during your stay in Czech republic and you hear loud sirens going off, this for youself : is it the first wednesday of the month today? Is it 12 o'clock? Sweet, it's all good, you don't have to worry your pretty little head. Does none of the above apply? RUN!

Don't forget the European Summer time (Daylight savings for U.S.) is over! We gained an extra hour this sunday which is really sweet, but can be confusing for tourists as we saw in our guests. So just keep an eye on it so that you don't arrive to your tour an hour early! Eventhough that's still better than hour late eh? :)
