Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
in Fortsetzung der erfolgreichen popkulturellen Veranstaltungsreihen „Rampe3“ (2003), Ramones Underground Art & Musik Fest (2006), „Augsburg Calling“ (ab 2007), „John-Lennon-Memorial“ (2010), „Dylan Days Augsburg“ (2011) und „Pop, Poetry & Palaver – Festival junge Literatur“ (2012) und „Get Back – 50 Jahre Beatles. Styles, Sounds & ArtWork der 60ies“ (2012) möchten wir für Herbst 2013 ein nächstes Projekt vorstellen. Durchgeführt wird die Veranstaltung von der Kulturpark West GmbH in Zusammenarbeit mit Gerhard Seckler, Gaye Black, Regio Augsburg Tourismus, Stadtwerke Augsburg, Signal Gallery London und Event Art Augsburg. „Augsburg Calling Britannia“ kurz AC/UK soll zur Sensibilisierung für eine kulturelle Umnutzung des Gaswerk-Geländes dienen und eine nachhaltige Positionierung dieser generationenverbindenden, popkulturellen Veranstaltungsreihe ermöglichen. Schwerpunkt ist der Blick durch ein industriekulturelles Fenster auf die Aktualität kreativer Beteiligungs- und Bildungsprozesse mit Aussicht auf postmoderne Event- und Fankultur.
10 Jahre nach dem überregional erfolgreichen Festival „Rampe 3“ (Augsburg und die Ramones) wollen wir nun der Musik- und Kunstszene aus Großbritannien Tribut zollen und die Netzwerke zwischen beiden Regionen ausbauen. Wie auch schon bei der Rampe3 soll der Fokus auf die äusserst kreativen Zeit der 70er und 80er Jahre im Bereich Glam-, Punkrock und New Wave gelegt werden. Neben den Britischen Städten London und Birmingham wird angestrebt durch „Augsburg Calling Britannia“ Musiker/Künstler aus der Augsburger Partnerstadt „Inverness“ und Deutschen Städten wie z.B. Die Veranstaltung gilt als Pilotprojekt und soll bei Erfolg in den nächsten Jahren mit anderen Ländern wie USA (2015: 50 Jahre Dayton Städtepartnerschaft), Japan, Frankreich ectr. Aufgrund vielfältiger persönlicher Kontakte ist es gelungen, ambitionierte, aus der Rock- und Popgeschichte bekannte Musiker, die sich auch als PopArt-Künstler in der Londoner und Britischen Szene als auch International einen Namen gemacht haben, für diese Ausstellung in Augsburg zu gewinnen. Die Ausstellung soll in einen popkulturellen Kontext zu lokalen, regionalen und teilweisen deutschlandweiten Kunst- und Kreativnetzwerken gezeigt werden. In Verbindung mit den Machern und Beteiligten der CURE Konferenz „Creative Urban Renewal in Europe“ mit 7 Projektpartnern aus Belgien, Frankreich, den Niederlanden, Grossbritannien und Deutschland entsteht zusätzlich eine kompetent besetzte Fachtagung „Kreativquartiere als Impulsgeber für Stadtentwicklung“, die Perspektiven aufzeigen soll für die weiteren Nutzungsoptionen des Industriedenkmals „Gaswerk“. Dear Sir or Madam,
Following on from the successful culture event series Rampe3 (2003), Ramones Underground Art & Musik Fest (2006), Augsburg Calling (2007 onwards), John-Lennon-Memorial (2010), Dylan Days Augsburg (2011), Pop, Poetry & Palaver – Festival of Young Literature (2012) and Get Back – 50 Years of the Beatles. Styles, Sounds & ArtWork of the 60s (2012), we are pleased to present our next project scheduled for autumn 2013. Augsburg Calling Britannia, or AC/UK for short, aims to raise awareness of a cultural change in use of the Gaswerk (gasworks) site, enabling the long-term positioning of this pop-cultural event series that crosses the generations. The main focus is the current relevance of creative participation and educational processes as seen through an industrial cultural window, with a view of postmodern event and fan culture. A decade after the national success of the Rampe 3 festival (Augsburg and the Ramones) we now want to pay tribute to the UK music and arts scene and develop the networks between the two regions. As with Rampe3, the spotlight will be on the incredible creativity of the 70s and 80s on the punk rock, glam and new wave scenes. As well as the British cities of London and Birmingham, Augsburg Calling Britannia endeavours to provide a platform for musicians and artists from Inverness, Augsburg’s twin town, and German cities such as Munich. The event is a pilot project which, if successful, will continue over the next few years involving other countries such as the USA, Japan and France. Thanks to numerous personal contacts we have been able to attract some ambitious musicians from rock and pop history who have also made a name for themselves as artists, not only on the London and UK scene but also internationally, to this exhibition in Augsburg. The exhibition will showcase local, regional and national artistic and creative networks in a cultural context. In association with the makers and participants of the CURE conference entitled "Creative Urban Renewal in Europe" with seven project partners from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Germany, we will also be holding an expert conference on "Creative quarters as a driver of urban development" aimed at highlighting the potential further uses of the Gaswerk industrial monument.
