Who doesn’t like their beauty sleep?! Shhhhhhh… Kili is our favourite green turtle around Thulusdhoo. Today she was still a bit sleepy and taking a nap near her favourite stone. 🐢 She has grown really big. Did you know green turtles are the second largest species of sea turtles and grow up to weigh over 200kg? Say hi to her here on you next dive trip to the Maldives.

They must be the marine rhythmic gymnasts! 🤸♂️ 🌊 Juvenile ribbon eels are black with a bright yellow band, and swimming freely they create mesmerising patterns. Characteristic are the wide open mouth and the expanded nostrils. They change colours to become blue when turning into males or bright yellow for females. This one we met while on excursion diving in Nungwi, Zanzibar!
(Rhinomuraena quaesita, IUCN LC)

We will never be bored watching the Manta rays that accompany us during every dive at the moment; free, fantastic, flying. Contact us @tauchreisenabenteuer for your trip to the Maldives! #Repost @seastardivingmaldives with @make_repost

Mantas from morning dive trip.
We 💙 Eagle Rays! On both sides of the channel, where the current is strong, we regularly see a group of Spotted Eagle Rays. (Aetobatus narinari, IUCN EN). Today we saw four. —Will we see more of them tomorrow?! #Repost @seastardivingmaldives with @make_repost

They will always see you! 👀👀
Ghost crabs are the fastest running crustaceans and seeing them on the beach in the Maldives we agree! The sandy colour camouflages them well (hence the name) and on top their eyes provide them with 360° vision, because they sit quite high on eyestalks. If you want to watch them, maybe after some amazing scuba dives, contact us today! 🦀🏝🤿
We haven’t met Ursula, but we found two giant morays that made us think of Flotsam and Jetsam! To meet the whole bunch of characters, but in reality, come visit to dive with us in the Maldives! 🤿 🏝
“Rocks with legs“?! Kind of fits, but lacks all the personality of sea turtles! 🐢This curious hawksbill turtle definitely came over to check us out and went right inbetween us! Well, hello you! 🤿👋🏽
Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) are critically endangered. Do what you can to contribute to the oceans‘ protection. Happy #worldturtleday 2021!

Did you know? The oldest black-tip reef shark ever recorded was more than 15 years of age! All of its fins except for one have black tips which makes it easy to distinguish from the other sharks. Their habitat is mostly in the shallower parts of the ocean and around top reefs.
This one is roughly 1,50m long and had just finished breakfast (some black surgeonfish) when we met it during our last dive! 🦈 #sharklove
Carcharhinus melanopterus, IUCN VU
🦈 #sharklove
Carcharhinus melanopterus, IUCN VU
Have you ever met a big group of these?
When they come towards you, they look flat - hence the generic name “platax“ from the Greek word “platys“ = flat.
This large school of spade-like looking longfin batfish came along, stayed for a while during the end of the dive here in North Male Atoll and then went their own way. They are always a charm to be around, sometimes very playful and interested in the divers‘ bubbles! #batfishlove
#batfishlove #Repost @seastardivingmaldives with @make_repost

🐟🐟 Top Speed Tuna.
Today, Philippe dives into a school of goldspot seabreams as they pass us by at this amazing dive site called “Aquarium”. Thankfully there is no glass around us though!
Peekaboo! Regal Angelfish are shy and will quickly hide when you dive close to them. This one also has a curious side and looks at us from his hiding place of the Goniopora coral and its flower-like polyps. This coral with its soft and long wafting tubes is abundant at this dive site in the Maldives.
Kuckuuuck!
