As you may be aware, the Maldivian government has announced a tax change starting from Ist January 2025:
• As of January Ist 2025, Green Tax will increase from $6 per person per night to $12 per person per night.
• As of Ist July 2025, GST Will increase from 16% to 17%

This is extremely disappointing as this increase in tax affects all existing bookings made prior to the announcement.

However we know that our customers book with Unique Getaways also because of our transparency and as our personalized quotes state that all taxes are included, we will remain committed to this principle.

Unique Getaways wants to assure all our customers that they will not be asked to pay these extra charges: the price agreed at time of booking is the price you will pay and, where applicable, Unique Getaways will absorb any increase in taxes that may arise.

Other Important Updates
Maldives Implements a Ban on Importing Vapes

Starting November 15, 2024, the Maldives has implemented a ban on the import of all va**ng devices and components.
We believe this is aimed at people importing in significant quantities. However, the government has not made that distinction clear yet.
Following this initial phase, from December 15, 2024, the use, possession, sale, manufacture, advertising, and distribution of va**ng products will be prohibited.
At the moment, tourists are theoretically covered under the import ban and are not allowed to bring va**ng devices to the Maldives. If a tourist is found with a va**ng device, it may be confiscated.

Tourist To***co Allowance
Travellers on a tourist visa can still import to***co products for personal use. Tourists may now bring only a single pack containing up to 19 ci******es. If a tourist brings more than this limit, Customs will hold the excess quantity until their departure.
