The aim of today's run was to rehearse running a half marathon distance at the exact time of day and temperature as my next half marathon, which is in 3 weeks.
I started at 7 in the morning, at 12c (53.6F), which is really quite comfortable. Then I ran along what was during the Ottoman and British colonial eras the Hijaz Railway.
It's a flat, easy course, that could easily be an actual half marathon.
The morning haze gave the fields a very calm look. I only saw a few runners, and the occasional dog walkers, and they smiled with a quiet good morning wave.

Out there, cycling in the Brandenburg trails there's a sense of freedom, and the craziness of the world appear like it's faded away in the distance; at least for a few hours.

Today, in a warm day of melted snow, we went to explore the forests and lakes in the Barnim Nature Park, a short distance north of Berlin.

And yes, crossing the puddles is as fun as it looks!

Two of my favourite Jewish traditions during the Hanukkah season (better late, etc.) are eating Chinese food for Christmas, and watching the all-time best superhero movie: The Hebrew Hammer.

The staff at are from Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shandong, and by some form of magic they are always able to make me feel both at home and at the same time experience serious longing for China ❤️🥟🍚

The coming Chinese new year is going to be a special one - the Wood Snake. Let's hope it brings the growth and wisdom it symbolises.

In Berlin, the impressive fire works festivities of New Year's Eve (or Silvester in German) is accompanied with a lot of negative consequences, disliked by elderly people, dog owners, and many others.

This year, the news reported 4 deaths (!), dozens of injuries of different levels, and a staggering 36 trashed apartments.

In my view, the police, fire brigades, and medical personnel, are nothing short of heroes, keeping the city as safe as possible!

The additional heroes in the days that follow are the workers of our Berlin's recycling waste management company, - they work hard in the cold to make Berlin a little cleaner and deserve our appreciation.

German word of the day: Auslaufmodell - roughly translated as the model that goes out of circulation and is therefore seriously discounted.

This word can be both depressing (if you like a running shoe so much as I like the wonderful KD900 Light) and at the same time be a happy word as the price was significantly discounted! 🏃🏻‍♂️😎

My advice for you shopping visitors to Berlin? Go now! Find your shoe size! Shops are getting rid of merchandise and the prices are great.

One more beautiful snowy run today in Sarajevo brought me to a total running distance of a thousand kilometres in 2024.
Running during the days of Chanukah helps me to remember how free I am, and how fortunate I am that I can run.

Running in the snow is one of my favourite things to do. And because it's an unusual hobby I find myself on top of beautiful mountains, all alone, enjoying the wild beauty of nature in winter.

The Lucia Weihnachtsmarkt in the Kulturbrauerei is my favourite Christmas Market in Berlin; out of roughly 80 markets...
I love the mix of locals and tourists, old Berliners and new ones, and just generally the great food and drinks on offer.
This week I went there twice with guests on tour, and once more yesterday, to meet running friends for a festive end of the year Glühwein.

I turned 50 yo a few months ago. So I waited and waited, and finally today conditions were perfect (dry, no wind, 2c), and I ran 50 km around the central districts of Berlin (route in the 2nd pic).

As aid stations I stopped at cafes and kiosks, where I met really nice and encouraging people. Plus, the city looks so beautiful with the Christmas atmosphere on 🎄

It was a truly lovely run; Berlin really is a city for runners!!! 🏃🏻‍♂️

Yesterday I ran in a race called Herbswaldlauf - (En.autumn forest run) in the norther part of Tegel forest.
It is arguably a misleading name, as the temperature was 0c when we started. In a way, this beautiful 11km trail race marks the transition from autumn to winter; and I love winter running!
