Hi! I’m Sylvie, I took over the CIEE Berlin story today! I’m a junior at Elon University studying film and graphic design. While in Berlin, I’ve been improving my German language skills (I completed level Advanced II!), learning about the art, history, and culture of the area, and going on lots of awesome trips to explore this amazing region of the world! Here are pictures of what I’ve been up to!

🎄🎄🎄Some photos from the last day’s excursion to the charming and historic city of Wittenberg.🎄🎄🎄

Wittenberg is famous above all for being the cradle of the Protestant Reformation, which radically changed European religion, politics and culture.

Wittenberg’s historic buildings and Reformation sites are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, underscoring the city’s cultural and historical importance. Today, visitors come to explore its magnificently preserved historic sites, churches and museums that tell the story of the Reformation and the legacy of Martin Luther.

Thanks for joining us in the excursion!❤️

🌟✨Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and Christmas Market 🎄🏰.

Yesterday, our Open Campus students visited the iconic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Breitscheidplatz, Charlottenburg.

This incredible ruin, a symbol of peace and reconciliation, offered a powerful moment to reflect on history while admiring its unique architecture.

Built in 1895 by Emperor Wilhelm II as a tribute to his grandfather, the church originally featured a neo-Romanesque style. Partially destroyed during an air raid in 1943, the remaining tower - known as the “hollow tooth” - now stands as a poignant monument to the devastation of war. In 1959, architect Egon Eiermann redesigned the ruins into a modern octagonal structure, illuminated by striking blue glass that evokes calm and meditation.

✨ We also had the chance to enjoyed the festive spirit of the Christmas market surrounding the church. 🎅🎁

A perfect mix of history, culture and Christmas magic!

🌟 Day trip to Potsdam 🌟

Our students joined us on a great day excursion to the historic city of Potsdam, only 45 minutes by train from Berlin! 🛤️

Known for its impressive streets, imperial gardens and magnificent palaces of the Prussian kings, Potsdam is a true gem in the Brandenburg region. 🌿🏰

🌍 We start with a guided tour of the city, immersing ourselves in its fascinating history and architectural wonders.

🌺 Some of us explore the iconic Sanssouci Palace, summer retreat of Frederick the Great, and others stroll through the lush greenery of the Biosphäre, an incredible indoor tropical garden with a butterfly garden. 🦋

Thank you all for joining us and making this trip so special. 💫 If you’re in Berlin, a visit to Potsdam is a MUST!!! ✨

Our students participated in a guided tour of Tempelhof Airport ✈️✈️

Tempelhof Airport was designed in the 1920s, rebuilt by the N**i government in the 1930s and used as an airport until 2008, and has since become one of the largest urban parks in Germany.

Since then, it has become one of the largest urban parks in Germany. On the one hand, it is a symbol of N**i megalomania, but on the other, a symbol of resistance and freedom thanks to the Berlin Airlift. Today it is a fascinating example of a multi-purpose creative space and confrontation with a terrible history.

It is also one of Berlin’s favorite parks! Where everyone can feel free.

If you are in Berlin you can’t miss it!🌟✈️

🌟Guten Morgen🌟

We want to start this week with lots of energy because we have some great excursions ahead of us.💪💪

But first, take a look at the pictures we have from the Berlin Zoo!😍😍😍

Our students joined us and we loved seeing the animals!

Especially the baby panda 🐼🐼🐼 it couldn’t get any cuddlier.

The Berlin Zoo was founded in 1844, and is the oldest zoo in Germany and one of the most renowned in the world.

It houses more than 20,000 animals of nearly 1,200 species, making it one of the most species-rich zoos in the world.

The zoo is famous for its giant pandas, including the adorable cubs that are born there.

Have a great week✌️✌️

🇩🇪✨ Our students had an unforgettable experience last week! ✨

They visited the renowned *Maischberger* talk show on ARD, one of Germany’s top programs for political debate and current affairs. 🎙️🌍

They got a behind-the-scenes look at the studio, met the incredible Sandra Maischberger herself, and discussed the *U.S. Presidential Elections* with experts and journalists. 📺💬

What an amazing way to bring global politics to life! Thanks to *Maischberger* for having us! 🙌

The first group of our Northeastern students visited Dresden this past weekend! 🏰✨

Despite the cold, we had an unforgettable experience exploring this historic East German city, known as the “Florence on the Elbe” for its stunning Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage. From the beautifully restored Frauenkirche, a symbol of peace after WWII, to the iconic Semperoper opera house, every corner of Dresden reflects resilience and beauty.

We strolled along the Elbe River, admired the Zwinger Palace, and were moved by the stories of a city rebuilt from the ashes. Each landmark tells a chapter of Dresden’s inspiring journey through history, and we’re grateful to have experienced it together! 🌆💙
