We spent the whole week in Sicily visiting our friends and partners in their beautiful olive groves and vineyards.
It was great to see everyone and do our bit for the olive harvest.
Unfortunately, the harvest was very poor in many places this year.
Often it was simply too dry or pollination did not take place due to unfavorable weather conditions. So although there are some trees that are full of olives, there are a huge number of trees that are bearing nothing. Fortunately, the quality is high. At least a small drop of bitterness. Nevertheless, the expected loss poses existential challenges for the families.
We will (have to) think about something together to develop a reliable source of income for the families. Some have not had a harvest for years. However, they are all lovely, friendly people who have an incredibly deep connection with their land.
We are also happy to always receive our dear guests here in a friendly manner, despite all the hurdles.
It is simply such a wonderful experience to stand in the olive grove, help with the harvest and chat with the farmers.
