When our team is on the road, we love to visit our socialbnbs and keep an eye out for new potential projects to support through our platform. Jule visited this accommodation/homestay during her trip to Uzbekistan. We are currently still checking if all quality criteria are met, as it is a homestay. Here we pay special attention to who ultimately benefits from the accommodation, i.e. where the money you pay as a traveler goes and also how much child protection can be observed.

📍Homestay in Uzbekistan

Shiringul’s homestay is one of the first homestays created in the Nuratau Mountains. The homestay is a member of a local Community Based Tourism initiative run by Responsible Travel LLC. Shiringul Musaeve is the wife of a homestay owner Mr. Parda Musaev, the homestay is named after her. Musaev's family has two houses where the guests can be accommodated.

Jovina, one of our Impact Ambassador, visited this cosy hostel in traditional architectural style. She stayed for free and took photos and videos of her experience for us. Sounds awesome, right?

The accommodation is surrounded by waterfalls, mountains and volcanoes. You can enjoy the Baños de Agua Santa, which offer amazing waterfalls and thermal waters, and observe the Tungurahua volcano, active since 1999.

You can also hike to the Cotopaxi volcano or Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador. The Amazon is also nearby and invites you to discover it.

We turned two years old 🥳🍾
2 years ago, we officially launched socialbnb. Although the idea of socialbnb was born in 2018, we have used the time to think holistically about the idea of fairer tourism and to develop corresponding measures.
We look back on 2 years full of different emotions, challenges and a lot of different experiences, together as a team, and that is what distinguishes us and our corporate culture. Unbelievable, but socialbnb is slowly but surely growing out of it's baby shoes.

Let's highlight our milestones of the last two years:

💚 Amazing partnerships with various institutions and organisations
🌿 Development and implementation of an impact measurement method to make the impact of each booking measurable and visible. We were able to publish our first impact report for the year 2022.
🚀 Relaunch of the landing page, for a better user experience
👩🏽‍💻 Technical and performance improvements of the website, also for the usability for hosts and travellers (in general: it is amazing that we have created a platform that enables the impact host and travellers to participate in tourism.)

Seit 2005 beschäftigt sich das Projekt mit der Erforschung, dem Studium und der Aufwertung des ländlichen Raum Cilentos, wobei wir vier Aktionslinien verfolgen:

1. Wiederherstellung und Produktion alter lokaler Kultursorten im ökologischen Landbau, sowohl im Obst- als auch im Gartenbau, mit hochwertigen landwirtschaftlichen und handwerklichen Umwandlungen
2. Architektonische Wiederherstellung ländlicher Gebäude mit qualitativ hochwertigen Beherbergungsangeboten für ökologisch-nachhaltige Reisende
3. Erneuerbare Energieerzeugung und Ressourcenmanagement sowie Permakulturwälder
4. Ausbildung, Freiwilligenarbeit und kulturelle Forschung zu allen oben genannten Themen.

Since 2005, the project has been engaged in research, study and valorization of the rural area of Cilento, following four lines of action:

1. recovery and production of old local cultivars in organic farming, both fruit and horticultural, with high quality agricultural and artisanal transformations.
2. architectural restoration of rural buildings with quality accommodation services for eco-sustainable travelers
3. renewable energy production and resource management, and permaculture forests
4. education, volunteerism, and cultural research on all of the above.

139,40 USD wurden im Jahr 2022 durch über socialbnb gebuchte Übernachtungen generiert. Aufgrund eines starken Wirbelsturms Ende Mai (Hurrikan Agatha) wurden Projekt und Übernachtungsräume zerstört, so dass die Mittel in den Wiederaufbau des Projekts gesteckt wurden.

Seit seiner Gründung haben mehr als 5000 Kinder und Erwachsene mit verschiedenen Behinderungen an den Programmen teilgenommen. Derzeit nehmen 635 Personen an den Aktivitäten teil (20% Kinder, 35% Jugendliche, 35% Erwachsene, 10% ältere Menschen).

USD 139.40 were generated in 2022 by socialbnb booked over- night stays generated. Due to a strong hurricane at the end of May (Hurricane Agatha), project and overnight rooms were destroyed, so the funds were put into the reconstruction of the project.

Since its inception, more than 5000 children and adults with various disabilities have participated in the programs. Currently 635 people participate in the activities (20% children, 35% youth, 35% adults, 10% elderly people).
