ALEXANDER PALACE AT TSARSKOYE SELO REOPENED
After an extensive restoration project, the Alexander Palace with the private apartments of the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, recently reopened. Built by Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi on the orders of Catherine the Great as a present for her favorite grandson Alexander Pavlovich, the future Tsar Alexander I, the Alexander Palace was completed in 1796 and is considered one of the finest neoclassical buildings in Russia. It became the favorite palace of Nicholas II and his family and it served as their home in the period 1905-1917. Visitors may enjoy a very seldom impression of the lavish daily living conditions of the Tsar family and admire the many unique paintings, furniture and chandeliers. The place is open daily.

BERLIN'S CULTURAL HEART - OPENING OF THE HUMBOLDT FORUM
The wait is over: after the outdoor areas of the Humboldt Forum including the beautiful Schlüterhof have opened in the past few weeks, the building is now officially opening its doors to the public. On July 20, the cellar of the palace, as well as the first and second floor will be accessible to visitors for the first time. The Humboldt Forum itself is celebrating the opening of the building with six exhibitions. One of them, BERLIN GLOBAL, shows the connections between Berlin and the world. Rooms with individual themes show Revolution, Free Space, Boundaries, Entertainment, War, Fashion and Interconnection. The important collections of the Museum of Asian Art and the Ethnological Museum will be on view from September on. Fittingly, visitors can now also use the architecturally impressive new subway station Museum Island, which opened on July 9. Berlin's cultural center continues to develop: the Unity Monument, the House of One and other exciting projects will be built here.
