This week, we receive insights from Joe Misika on how he captures beautiful shots, such as fighting zebra stallions. Here's what he had to say:

"Capturing fighting zebra stallions requires a faster shutter speed to freeze the action (at least 1/1250s) and a wide depth of field between f8 - f10. Then, do a burst of shots as the action continues. You will be spoiled for choice with all the frame-by-frame action you have just captured. Zebras are also a beautiful subject for black and white photography, so in Lightroom, convert it to black and white and then start playing with the blacks and whites, highlights and shadows, and finally contrast. For a bonus, I usually add a bit of texture, clarity, and dehaze."

Sometimes, black and white photography captures the essence of wildlife in a way that color simply cannot. In black and white, every detail from the texture of their skin to the way shadows highlight their structure and the grandeur of their size. They become more pronounced.

Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that giraffes only need to drink water once every few days because they get most of their moisture from the leaves they eat?

Here's a tip for capturing the perfect photo of giraffes: When you spot a giraffe at the hide, it's best to let them start drinking before you click the shutter, as they can be quite skittish during this vulnerable moment. patience and respect for their natural behaviour can lead to stunning wildlife photography.

Happy Chooseday!

This week, we're spotlighting Cary Ann Bennett, her story, and this stunning image captured from the hide!

"All of the creatures at Mashatu are amazing, but one that is easy to overlook is the Pearl-spotted Owlet. This diminutive hunter, measuring only about 6 inches in length, is fascinating to watch. It is also a beautiful bird with its spotted feathers!

An individual would come to the hide in the early mornings when flocks of hundreds of other birds arrived to drink. She would fly in and sit quietly, appearing very non-threatening, while sizing up the flocks in preparation for an attack. After a few minutes, she would suddenly launch herself into the flock and sn**ch a bird as it was fleeing! It was amazing to watch this diminutive hunter in action!"
