Mongolia ranked first for best destination to travel in 2024

Lonely Planet, one of the world’s biggest and most popular travel guides, has named Mongolia the best tourist destination for 2024. While India comes in second place, followed by St Lucia in third.

By the way Lonely Planet analyzed over 200 destinations before compiling its annual list of the globe’s most attractive cities, regions, and countries to visit.

You wouldn't think it would be warm from the outside, but it definitely is. I enjoy looking back at some of the exciting places I have slept whilst travelling.

The ger structure can be dismantled and reassembled quickly, which is beneficial for nomadic people who move several times a year.

Mongolian horseback archers.

My photo expedition guests and I spent this afternoon photographing a group of young Mongolian riders who are keeping ancient traditions alive.
Javzaa's skills were incredible.

"During the 13th century, the Mongolian bow was one of the most advanced weapons on the battlefield. Under the leadership of Chinggis Khan and his descendants, archery was instrumental in building one of the largest empires the world has ever seen as they swept away most who faced them."

What an incredible few weeks in Mongolia on my latest Photo Expedition.

Pictured here is Aimoldir - a 14 year old girl who has broken tradition to win the eagle hunters festival competitions in Western Mongolia 3 weeks ago.

Eagle hunting has historically been a male dominated tradition. She is the younger sister of a great friend of mine in Mongolia and we were privileged to spend time with her whilst she was working and training with her eagle.

Aimoldir's falconry journey started at the age of 5 with teachings from her grandfather, father and brother. From 5 to 7 years old she worked with a Saker Falcon which is the national bird of Mongolia. At seven she began working with her current golden eagle Anna, 7 years later Anna is due to be released back into the wild in November.

This image was shot with the Nikon Z9 and the new bird eye detection AF which worked flawlessly.
