Max Schlereth, the owner of Living Hotels, and Moritz Haake, a prominent figure in Munich's gastronomy, have teamed up at the "Das Viktualienmarkt" hotel on Frauenstraße to launch St. Ribs. This new dining spot specializes in spare ribs, offering patrons the chance to carve the meat themselves. They aim to revamp the rib's image in the culinary scene, recognizing its historical relegation to beer garden sidelines and as a mere sauce base in upscale eateries. Over three years, Haake and Schlereth meticulously sourced high-quality meats and perfected recipes for their spare ribs. Marinated for days and slow-cooked for up to 24 hours, the ribs emerge tender and flavorful, featuring a blend of pork, beef, and veal. The menu includes diverse options like salad bowls, pinsa, and a "Prime Sandwich." A unique creation, the "Crispy Spareribs-Cheese Balls," adds flair to their offerings, aiming to fill a gap in Munich's culinary landscape. Living Hotels, mindful of environmental challenges like declining air quality and rising sea levels, integrates sustainability and social engagement into their core values. Partnering with Green Globe since 2017 for sustainable tourism, they received certification for nine hotels in 2018, followed by the rest in 2019. Their collaboration reflects their belief in the power of partnerships to enhance outcomes. Living Hotels sees sustainability not as an optional endeavor but as an integral aspect of their commitment to the planet and its communities.

The Stasi Prison Museum in Berlin, or Gedenkstätte Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, is a chilling reminder of East Germany's repressive past. It's housed in the former Stasi prison and offers guided tours led by former inmates. The prison is preserved authentically, complete with interrogation rooms and exhibits that detail the oppressive tactics used by the Stasi. Visitors can explore the grim atmosphere and gain a deep understanding of the surveillance state that existed. It's a somber but educational experience that fosters remembrance and appreciation for human rights and democracy in the face of oppression.
A meeting of guests with former inmates of the Stasi prison of the DDR is a poignant and enlightening experience. These encounters typically take place at the Stasi Prison Museum or similar venues, where former political prisoners share their firsthand accounts of imprisonment and interrogation under East Germany's oppressive regime.
Guests have the opportunity to listen to the harrowing stories of these survivors, gaining insight into the harsh conditions, psychological pressures, and resilience that defined their experiences. It's a chance to ask questions, empathize with their struggles, and reflect on the importance of human rights and freedom.
These meetings foster a deep connection between the past and the present, serving as a powerful reminder of the enduring value of democracy and the need to protect it in the face of authoritarianism.

Today is the festive opening of christmas markets almost everywhere. What are you particularly looking forward to?
For many it is the festive end of the year. The highlight of winter. Festive lights drive away the darkness of winter. There is music in the air. Moreover, it carries the scents of delicious Christmas treats like pastries and roasted almonds. People meet for a cup of mulled wine.
One of the most beautiful Christmas markets may be the one in Lübeck. The Hanseatic architecture with red brickworks, narrow cobblestone alleyways, and the impressive gothic churches of the medieval old town blend particularly well with the warm Christmas illumination.
Yet, it is more than that. From 1 - 10 December, the craft market opens in the historic halls and vaults of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit. It used to be Northern Europe's oldest welfare institution dating back to the 13th century. Lübeck’s maritime legacy is a recurring theme all over the city’s Christmas markets. Historical harbour sheds accommodate another arts and crafts market. A venue creating a stunning blend of Christmas moods and industrial atmosphere. Nearby “Harbour Glow” is a new part of Lübeck’s Christmas market right by the water. It's got a clearly alternative vibe. Barbecues are spreading mouthwatering smells of smoked salmon and other maritime delicacies. Live concerts with drums and guitar riffs replace traditional Christmas tunes.
However, a visit to Lübeck wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Café @niederegger_luebeck
Having a piece of their marzipan cakes is pure bliss, not only during the Christmas season. Be sure not to miss their free exhibition with life-sized sculptures made from the delicious almond paste.

@Frommers Travel Guides have just included the city in its list of best places to go to in 2024. The OutThere Magazine published an inspiring article on Dresden in their “California Cool Issue” – taking their readers on a tour through the city’s cultural and artistic scene. There is little doubt about it – the world is slowly turning its attention to the Saxonian capital. But what is it that makes Dresden so special?
You’ll find the city half-way between Berlin and Prague – close to the German-Czech border at the foot of the mountain chain “Elbsandsteingebirge” with its impressive rock formations. It is known as the capital of German baroque. At the turn of the 18th century, it was the seat of the thriving and wealthy Saxonian monarchy. Especially Augustus II “The Strong” brought home the Grandeur of French and Italian Baroque and shaped a capital that should express his might.
Despite of being devastated during WWII, Dresden rose like a Phoenix from the Ashes. Magnificent buildings such as the Zwinger Palace, the Semper Opera House and the Church of Our Lady characterise the skyline of the city on the river Elbe. The scenic surroundings offer many other sights such as
- Moritzburg Castle @visit_moritzburg
- Pillnitz Castle @schlosspillnitz
- The porcelain city Meißen @stadtmeissen
…to name just a few. Yet, Dresden is not history alone. It’s a vibrant student city and a cultural metropolis as aptly described in the article by @outtheremag
Last but not least, Dresden is home to one of Germany’s most popular Christmas Markets: the “Striezelmarkt” – this year opening on November 29th. Don’t miss the local speciality “Dresden Christmas Stollen”

Have you seen the Elbphilharmonie?
Hamburg’s new opera house opened in 2016. It has become the new icon of Germany’s northern port city. A striking example of visionary architecture that changed Hamburg’s cityscape forever.
The historic warehouse district – now a UNESCO world heritage – bears witness to Hamburg’s significance as Germany’s port to the world. Since the year 2000, the futuristic HafenCity rose out of the surrounding harbour facilities. The new “Elbphilharmone” is the flagship of this new city district. Sitting on the huge brick pedestal of a former storehouse, a magnificent glass structure rises into the sky. Like a huge sail, it seems to set out into the world, with a roof shaped like the waves of the ocean.
Winding escalators carry you through a tunnel of light to the view platform on the 8th floor with views of the harbour and the city. The heart of the Elbphilharmonie consists of three concert halls; with 2100 guests fitting into the largest of them whereby the musicians perform in the centre of the hall surrounded by the audience.
Sitting on top of all these marvels, the Westin Hotels & Resorts Hamburg is a four stars superior hotel with what may be one of the world’s most exclusive locations. Stretching from the 6th to the 20th floor, the hotel offers 244 rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling-windows. All of them enjoy breathtaking views of the port and the city. On the 6th floor, you’ll find a 1300 sqm “Heavenly Spa” with pool, saunas, steam bath and gym. MICE groups choose between 9 meeting rooms for up to 220 delegates. A highlight being the Sky High Meeting Suite for extraordinary board meetings with unrivalled views. The Elbphilharmonie may be an architectural milestone from the outside while it is actually a whole world from the inside

Tomorrow will be the start of the 65th Nordic Film Days. It's a highlight for you who appreciate European cinema and the cultures of Northern Europe.
For the 65th time, Lübeck will be the stage for filmmakers from Scandinavia, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the Baltics. Lübeck has always been an important trading centre between northern and southern Europe. Today it is the first opportunity for many Nordic directors to present their films to a larger international audience. At this film festival, not only established artists have their say. It is also an exciting platform for up-and-coming talents. Sámi, Inuit, and artists with immigrant background add invaluable and intriguing insights into their culture. Their work arouses many different emotions ranging from melancholy to compassion. There are comedies, documentary films, experimental cinema and a good pinch of that special black humour that Nordic film productions are famous for.
For five days, everything will be about the art of Nordic filmmaking. With venues spread all over Lübeck, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the well-preserved medieval old town between screenings. There are countless cosy cafés to rub shoulders with the locals. Neither is it uncommon to stumble upon on of the filmmakers or actors.
A new highlight is the venue InfinityDome. Here you can experience films as 360° screenings. Surrounded by the projections of starlit skies and the vastness of the Nordic landscapes, you feel like you are right in the middle of the action.
Find more information at NORDISCHE FILMTAGE LÜBECK or Hansestadt Lübeck and please feel welcome to drop us a line.
What do you think about Nordic cinema? Can you name some of your favourite movies?

Yesterday, the first strong storm of autumn hit us here in the North. This is a nice time to visit the shores of North and Baltic Sea. The big hustle and bustle of summer is past. The air is fresh and salty, the skies are high, and the stormy sound of the sea can have a particularly calming effect on the mind. After a nice walk on the beach, you may want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea. You may also want to combine all this with a relaxing spa retreat.
A-ROSA resorts are known for combining comfortable accommodation in unique locations with great spa experiences. The A-ROSA resort Travemünde enjoys views of the Baltic Sea and the elegance that comes with the listed building from 1913. Travemünde is one of Germany’s oldest seaside resorts. The hotel resides in the former “Kurhaus” – a spa house right from the start and, later, the seat of a famous casino. It offers 153 comfortable rooms and 40 suites. Go for a room with balcony and sea view!
The “SPA-Rosa” is a wellness temple on two floors. There is an indoor and an outdoor pool. Seven thematic saunas and steam baths will dissolve all the stress and tensions you may have brought with you. What’s left of it will be driven out by the capable hands of the hotel’s massagers.
CARL’s is the offspring of Hamburg’s popular restaurant at Elbphilharmonie – French cuisine made from seasonal and regional ingredients. Business groups may establish their base at A-ROSA’s conference venue with nine meeting rooms for up to 240 delegates.
There is much to discover in the near surroundings: from the beaches of the Baltic Sea to the medieval city centre of Lübeck (UNESCO world heritage). Hamburg is just an hour away from here and if your itinerary heads north, there are several daily ferry services between Travemünde and Scandinavia.
