Hmm. The former trashy gas station in front of Courtroom 600 is now “Cube 600,” a place for temporary exhibits and still pretty obviously a former trashy gas station. This sort of thing is both what I like about Nuremberg and find frustrating: the not-quite-ready-for-prime-time nature of some of the city’s attempts at tourism. I can’t decide if “Cube 600” sounds more like a mid-90s Christian Slater film or a video game for the Commodore 64.

No more covid tests necessary, guests are welcome to book online or pay in cash at the meeting point. It’s a beautiful day for a tour!

Starting this weekend private tours are again allowed in Nuremberg! Guests are required to have a negative Covid test less than 48 hours old or be fully vaccinated. Tomorrow afternoon we’ll give our first tour since October!

At StoryCorps, a daughter cherishes memories with her dad, WWII veteran Emilio "Leo" DiPalma, who died of COVID-19 last month at age 93. "I'm honoring his life, not how he died," Emily Aho said.

Here’s hoping that Tour Guides and the local tour industry will receive some much needed support from the Bavarian government soon.

Normally tour guides arrive on Marienplatz to show people the heart of beautiful Munich. Today they gathered in numbers to demonstrate for a better deal from the authorities in this difficult time when international visitors are temporarily absent. Solidarity!

Dream Vision; A Nightmare (1525), by Albrecht Dürer, who died today in 1528.

The watercolour and accompanying text describe an apocalyptic dream he had on the night of 7-8th June 1525. The text reads: "In 1525, during the night between Wednesday and Thursday after Whitsuntide, I had this vision in my sleep, and saw how many great waters fell from heaven. The first struck the ground about four miles away from me with such a terrible force, enormous noise and splashing that it drowned the entire countryside. I was so greatly shocked at this that I awoke before the cloudburst. And the ensuing downpour was huge. Some of the waters fell some distance away and some close by. And they came from such a height that they seemed to fall at an equally slow pace. But the very first water that hit the ground so suddenly had fallen at such velocity, and was accompanied by wind and roaring so frightening, that when I awoke my whole body trembled and I could not recover for a long time. When I arose in the morning, I painted the above as I had seen it. May the Lord turn all things to the best."
