It's Seerosen or Teichrosen season (Lake or pond roses) or waterlillies as we know them and many of the lakes here have a gorgeous show of these amazing plants, we'll be on the lookout for them on the next week or two! 🪷

Ever wondered how those crosses get to the top of the mountains!?

The new summit cross of the Benediktenwand is up! More than 200 helpers carried it together to the 1,800 meter high summit. Over a period of three days, the 1.4-ton parts were transported over 700 meters on foot. On Sunday morning the time had finally come - the new cross was successfully erected! 👏🏔️ The old cross that stood on the summit for 65 years was in poor condition due to the weather and had to be replaced.

It's official!!! The famous Ludwig Race is on!

The first weekend of February will see hundreds of cross country skiiers of all ages taking part in races from Ettal and beyond in the Graswang Valley back to the Oberammergau finish line.

2023 adventure tip!

See the beautiful sights along the Romantische Strasse /Romantic Road, and continue on to our place for the Fairy Tale Castles!

Medieval Nördlingen is not only almost circular, it is peppered with diamonds. A unique landscape, created almost 15 million years ago by the impact of a 1 km (just over 1/2 mile) wide asteroid.

Travelling at an estimated 25 km (15.1/2 miles) per second, the meteorite crashed into the ground with such force it created a 26 km (16+ mile) wide crater in which the town lies. Exposing the bedrock to such intense heat and pressure the bubbles of carbon it contained transformed into tiny diamonds.

At less than 0.2mm across they are barely visible to the human eye, and all the buildings within the city wall are filled with clusters of minute gemstones, making Nördlingen like no other town on Earth.

On the "Romantic Road", the oldest and best known of all German holiday routes, the historic old town is enclosed by Germany’s only completely preserved wall, with an 2.7 km (1.7 mile) accessible parapet walkway. And those old defensive town walls and buildings contain about 72,000 tons (158,730,159 lbs) of diamonds.
