Lines in the snow.

Each year Uli Schwenk and a lucky passenger fly from Hayingen down to Saint Auban and back. Catching up with German friends who are living the dream and live 10 minutes drive to Saint Auban Airport.

This year Uli had a close look at the snow capped mountains.

Even on a weak day when you think you will need the engine the eta finds a way to use this lift and exceed your expectations.

18m task was cancelled. Uli and Keith flew the eta as a sniffer flight, we managed to complete their task…. just.

Any day that we fly is a happy day.

The tasking was set only for 18m class. Uli offered that we take off and be the sniffer. Approved so an early launch followed by a couple of low spots before we get high.

Task was cancelled prior to all 18m gliders were launched as the conditions are not good enough for all to get around.

We will see now if we can fly the task.

Check back later and see if we made it around the task.

eta returning after a 300 klm flight following instructions from the tower.

The eta EM placed 4th yesterday. The first 6 gliders were all Binder (eta was built with Binder collaborating with other manufacturers). Congratulations to Jim and Wilhelm from Sweden, a good result.

Weather briefing for day 2. A few showers through the day. Not a large enough window to launch even a single class to attempt a competition day. A few of the technical slides with a good briefing from our meteorologist. Thanks to SkySight for making this easy to understand.

Uli and Keith will do some local flying today planning a mid afternoon takeoff. Uli is happy with the wind direction and strength for some ridge soaring along the Schwaibish Alb. I will post later some pictures and video, check back later and see what we got up to.

No matter how bad the forecast is, Uli will smile and say “it will be an adventure”.

The first day of Hahnweide 2024 is finally here and the anticipation is building as the grid is set and ready for the initial launch. Team Schwenk, Uli and Joachim will be taking to the skies today while Keith takes some time to recover from jet lag.

The forecast looks promising after the next couple of days when a few showers are expected to pass through.

The last half of the competition is forecast for clearer skies and better flying conditions.

Last day of the competition. 336 klm. We are having our 3rd flying day. The other photos were from my walk last night around the perimeter of the runways. Electric delivery to the runway by Tesla.
