Last week we were contacted by the organisers of the “Rhine in Flames” a traditional firework event on the Rhine that takes place during our “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” tour, to choose the boat we would like to be on for this event. Every year we reserve the tickets a year ahead for this event to make sure that our customers do not miss this once in a lifetime experience....

After the Western Motorhome Show in Malvern, we stopped as usual to visit family in Milton Keynes and then returned home on Friday the 23rd of August. This meant we had four days to unload the tent and all the other show equipment, get our hair cut and get ready for the next two back-to-back tours: our "Impressive Italian Lakes and Cities…...

Today we finished our last two summer tours: “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” and “Germany’s Romantic Road”. Both tours were very enjoyable, but on the Rhine & Moselle tour we also encountered some challenges. Day 13 of our “Germany’s Romantic Road “ motorhome tour.

From Dinkelsbühl we went further south via Nördlingen, Donauwörth and Augsburg. In Donauwörth there was another celebration going on with lots of traditional German music and beer being drunk in typical German beer tents. In Augsburg the main attraction was the Golden Hall and the Fuggerei, the oldest social housing complex in the world!

We then went on to the Ammersee and stayed on the west bank of the lake, where the whole group went on a boat trip during our non-driving day. On route most went to the Kloster Andechs which is ideal for a lunch stop with the brewery and a restaurant.

The last three nights we stayed at a first-class campsite on a lake north of Schwangau/Füssen. On route we visited the UNESCO world heritage pilgrimage church of Wies. On Thursday we all made our way down to Schwangau to visit the famous "Disney" castle Neuschwanstein and the Hohenschwangau castle and in the afternoon we took a cable car ride on the Tegelbergbahn, which gave us amazing views over the castles and the lakes. Today is a day to relax before the long journey home, and which we will end with a joint farewell dinner.

Until we came on this tour, we never realised Denmark was such an interesting and beautiful country, rich in history, spectacular castles, stunning coastline, fabulous food, especially the seafood and the street food scene is fantastic. Highlights were the west and northern coasts of Jutland and Skagen. The roadbook was full of ideas and places to visit enroute making this a true “touring holiday”. We love the choice of campsites, and their locations were perfect for the areas we visited. To conclude the “Delightful Denmark” tour was truly delightful.

Day 8 of our „Germany‘s Romantic Road“ motorhome tour.

Today we left Dinkelsbühl after having spent two nights at our campsite on a lake, to continue our journey south. We were really lucky as we were in Dinkelsbühl during the annual celebration of the „Kinderzeche“, where the city celebrates the children saving the city from destruction by the Swedish troops during the 30-year war in the 17th century.

On the way to Dinkelsbühl many of the group stopped in the old town of Feuchtwangen for lunch and some could not resist visiting a Fritz Berger shop, the largest camping accessories chain in Germany.

The previous two nights we stayed in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where parts of the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang were filmed and in the criminal and torture museum there you can still see the carriages of the child catcher. Another very much appreciated visit was to the world largest Christmas shop, Käthe Wohlfahrt, and of course a photo session at the Plönlein and trying the famous snowballs could not be missed either.

Day 4 of our „Germany‘s Romantic Road“ motorhome tour.

On Sunday we started our tour along the Romantic Road in the „Snow White fairytale town“ Lohr am Main. Our campsite was located directly at the river and ideal for relaxing or going for a swim in the river or pool. In the evening we had our welcome dinner at a typical German restaurant in the market square.

During the second day we drove along the river Main passing Würzburg with the many historic buildings including the UNESCO world heritage Residenz palace. In the evening we had a wine tasting at a vineyard producing organic wines. As driving after the wine tasting would have been difficult, we had reserved pitches at the vineyard, so we could spend the night there.

On the third day everyone of the group visited the lovely castle and gardens at Weikersheim. Today we moved on to one of the most beautiful cities on the Romantic Road: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where we will stay the next two nights. The group members went to an open air museum, visited a spa with a salt lake, or stopped at the church in Creglingen to admire the famous alter of Tilman Riemenschneider.

Day 14 of our Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers motorhome tour.

In Cochem we stayed again directly at the river, but now it was not the Rhine anymore, we had arrived at the Moselle. Everyone went into town and took the chairlift up to the rock allowing a super view down on to the town, river and castle.

From Cochem we continued on to Bernkastel-Kues with it’s historic town centre and market square. On our route to Trier many of the group stopped at the monastery brewery and restaurant for lunch in beautiful sunshine.

In Trier we stayed at a vineyard and enjoyed a group meal and wine tasting with a visit to the wine cellar. During the day there was plenty of time to visit the oldest city of Germany dating back to the Romans. Most impressive was the 2,000 year old Porta Nigra, but also the cathedral and the other 7 UNESCO world heritage sites.

We are now in Luxembourg and will end the tour tomorrow, but today everybody took the bus for free into the city centre. Yesterday everybody had the opportunity to stop in Saarburg, see the famous bend in the river, walk the treetop walk in Cloef or visit the Roman Villa. This evening we will have one last meal together and tomorrow everybody will go home or continue their journey alone. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. For us the next tour will be along the Romantic Road, starting on Sunday.

Day 10 of our Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers motorhome tour.

At our campsite in Sankt Goar located opposite the legendary Loreley rock everybody in the group was fascinated from the passing boats. The following day many took their bikes for a ride along the river or went up to the Loreley. We then moved on to Rüdesheim to see the fireworks of the Rhine in Flames from the boat.

We then left the Rhine to join the Moselle in Cochem. On route some went to one of the most beautiful suspension bridges.

Day 5 of our Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers motorhome tour.

Last Saturday we started our tour in Aachen, where most German kings were crowned and home tio the UNESCO World Heritage Cathedral, one of the oldest in Europe. We then moved on to Cologne and some of the group dmrove through the Eifel National Park visiting the town of Monschau on the way.

In Cologne the Cathedral is of course a must, as is the Kölsch beer. We also had a chance to watch England play in the European Championships at the campsite restaurant. After two nights we drove down to Koblenz where we had lovely river bank pitches reserved. On route some stopped at the bridge of Remagen and most visited the cold water geysir in Andernach.

Today we just had a short drive to Sankt Goar, through the UNESCO World Heritage Middle Rhine Valley to our campsite located opposite the legendary Loreley rock, perfect for boat watching.

Sunday was the last day of our Stunning Norway 🇳🇴 tour.

On Saturday we went into the city of Oslo and visited some of the many attractions, like the Town Hall, the Opera house and the sculpture park. Of course we also attended the changing of the guards at the Royal Palace. Which unfortunately took place in the rain 🌧️☔️.

Sunday it was time to say goodbye 🥲.
Some decided to meander home via Sweden others took the ferry from Kristiansand, but not before stopping at the Heddal Stave church, which is Norways largest and then spending some time at the Telemark canal. As we took the ferry from Larvik in the evening we also had time to bist Heddal and were lucky to see the locks at the Telemark canal in action.

We are now back in Germany staying the night just south of Hamburg. Tomorrow we will be back in home getting ready for the next tour to the Rhine & Moselle on Saturday.

Day 19 of our Stunning Norway 🇳🇴 tour.

From Geiranger we went up the Eagles Road and had planned to drive down the Trollstigen, but the road was temporarily closed for safety reasons. We therefore took the Fjord road to Åndalsnes and stopped at the Trollveggen wall. The night was spent at the river Lågen.

The next day on route to Lillehammer we did a detour to Lom with one of the largest and oldest Stave churches of Norway. Our next campsite again at the river offered us another stunning sunset just before midnight. The highlight of the next day was the Norwegian Road Museum with a tunnel building section and all types of machinery and vehicles. Today we arrived in the capital Oslo, where we will spend the next two nights as final days of the tour.

Day 16 of our Stunning Norway 🇳🇴 tour.

After some colourful sunsets at about 11:30 pm in Jostedal, we moved on to the beautiful campsite at lake Lovatnet, where we had premium pitches with a wonderful view. During the day we went on a boat trip on the lake and some of the group rented electric two seater cars, to drive along the lake and up towards the glacier tongue.

Today we took the scenic road to Geiranger and also went up to Dalsnibba, where we looked down into the fjord from 1,500 metres above sea level. Finally a picture of the big ones arriving in Geiranger.

We hope you are all well and that some of you were inspired by our last newsletter and got your motorhome out of hibernation for some winter travelling. Maybe your next trip out is to the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC starting on Tuesday 21stof February in Birmingham. We have exhibited at this show since we started the company in 2015, but as you know the show was cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid restrictions....
