Many, many years ago, right here, at the Riddersalen kiosk, there used to be an enormous kitchen garden...
Not just any kitchen garden; but the king's own. 😮
King Christian II, nearly 500 years ago, invited the Dutch to Denmark to cultivate vegetables for his royal table (Dutch were known for their great gardening skills).
And as Frederiksberg was back then in the outskirts of the city, it was on Allégade, where the Dutch built 20 farms.
Can you imagine the Allégade from today, but surrounded by 20 farms😲 ??
The place was called ‘Ny Hollænderby' or 'New Dutch Town’.
Today, names like Ny Hollændervej and Ny Hollænderskolen are the only small remembrance left of the Dutch farmers.
