December 19🎄 A typical day with Eastern Snow.

Welcome to the 19th of December here at Eastern Snow. Christmas eve is approaching and today we will take you through a typical day with Eastern Snow. For the sake of the example, we will be situated in beautiful Georgia.

🌅 At 07:00 you get out of bed and are headed down for the amazing breakfast at the Posta Mestia hotel. The helicopter is being prepared.

December 14 🎄 Skiing ability

Some of you are probably wondering - how great of a skier/snowboarder do I need to be?

The required level as a skier/snowboarder depends on the destination. You do not have to be a world class freerider. You don't at all❗️. On some destinations, you should as a minimum have some off-piste experience and be familiar with the basic freeride techniques. But in others, such as North Macedonia, the terrain offers great variety. It's perfect both for those who want to learn to master the offpiste and for those who just wanna go wild in the powder all week.

Everybody can have fun freerding with Eastern Snow. If you are still in doubt, do not hesitate to give us a call and we would find the best destination for you 👏

December 12 🎄 Safety while skiing

Here at Eastern Snow, we always put your safety first. We have many different initiatives that ensure that safety is always top notch, so you can enjoy your adventure in the snow. On the first evening at the destination, we will have a small introduction to good practice and skiing in the off-piste and avalanche-dangerous terrain 🗻

This ensures that all participants have the best prerequisites to be safe and familiar with the wild terrain. Every morning, the weather conditions will be reviewed with the participants. This allows us to assess and map where there are the best opportunities for deep powder and also where we need to pay special attention. Just as we do not want to compromise on safety, we do not compromise on our guides.

We use both our own European certified guides and local guides - lead and tailguides. Our own mature guides take care of all the practicalities and make sure that you have a pleasant trip with the other guests 🤙🌨

December 11🎄 Travel insurance

On trips outside of Denmark, The Faraoe Islands, Greenland, EU/EEA and Switzerland, the yellow health insurance card and the blue EU health insurance card aren’t valid. A private travel insurance is necessary if there is an accident. The Department of Foreign Affairs and embassies of your country will not be able to help you with covering the cost of eg. hospital visits, medical help or repatriation. It’s important to make sure that the travel insurance covers the relevant activity 🏂

The various insurance companies typically denote freeride as an extreme sport or dangerous sport. When it comes to skiing, you can’t always be sure that this is enough, since certain insurance companies require you to take out a separate ski travel insurance, or buy a ski travel addition to an existing insurance. We always recommend our customers to check up on whether or not the specific travel and activity is covered by the insurance.

December 10 🎄Eastern European cuisine

The Eastern gastronomy has been forged by the natural resources of the regions that find their way into many recipes. Fish and seafood are plentiful from the small regional villages of North Macedonia to the high alpine kitchens of Georgia.

The unique flavor of the native juniper wood lends itself to smoking hams and sausages. And an abundance of sour cream and cream cheese are the natural byproducts of a thriving dairy industry. Mushrooms abound in the many forests that are also home to wild game that finds its way into dishes like hunter's stew and venison goulash. Fertile farmlands produce grains to create the staggering varieties of bread, noodles and dumplings, vodka, and to serve as feed for the pigs, ducks, and lambs that end up in so many recipes.

December 6 - The backpack of an Eastern Snow guide 🚁

Hey guys. I'm Johan. I'm one of the freeride guides in Eastern Snow and most often the guy behind the camera. Today in the X-Mas Calendar, I will show what i pack in my bag for an epic freeride trip. Please note, none of these are required when traveling with us; they should just serve as inspiration.

Fat skis. For me personally, a solid rocker profile, lightweight shift-bindings, playful flex and 120mm under the foot preferably. I bring my avalanche airbag, my transceiver, probe, shovel and skins for touring. In addition, I bring my first aid kit for emergencies. And the nerdy stuff: snow saw for study pits, snow study kit for avalanche studying, extra ski straps perfect for broken bindings or injuries, multi tool kit, extra poles, heating blanket, walkie talkies and a lot more.

And never forget the snacks 🍭
I normally bring chocolate and beef jerky.

A great catski adventure!

Catskiing is all about taking you to those untouched places in a convenient way, so you get as much untracked powder terrain as possible during a week and much more than you can imagine compared to a resort stay.

We will be located in Popova Shapka, a convenient 1hr+ drive from Skopje Airport. Popova Shapka is located in 1700m at the Sharr Mountains. Here you will, accompanied with Cat, have access to a big vaste area with some of the highest peaks in North Macedonia bordering up to Kosovo & Albania.

December 1 - The story of Eastern Snow 👋

Eastern Snow has emerged from two veterans in the ski & snowboard environment, with more than 60 years of combined experience behind them, they have been on almost all continents, where traces of snow can be found. We were in the backcountry when it was just known as off-piste well before the concept of freeride was found. We see that travelers within this segment have become more individualists. Several have turned away from the predictable commercial Alp trips and are looking for something more authentic and rawer, where you can explore new cultures, while at the same time getting an exclusive ski & board experiences. Here at Eastern Snow, we have seen a need for this type of skier & snowboarder to link up with others with the same interest to create new contacts with the shared passion for powder.
