It’s Wednesday; Whale Wednesday ,time for some Whale facts !

S***m whales are some of the most fascinating creatures in the ocean. While they may be known for their deep dives, but did you know they have incredibly strong family connections?

S***m whales live in matriarchal groups, where females and their calves form close-knit pods . These family units stay together for many years, offering protection and social support. 🐋👩‍👧‍👦 Aunts and other females in the pod will often help protect and raise their calves . They also pass down important skills such as hunting techniques and migration routes. This gives calves a better chance of surviving and thriving in the ocean. 🌍

Eventually the male calves are made to leave their family groups when they reach adolescence, around 10-15 years old. They join “bachelor groups” with other males of similar age. As they grow older, the males often become more solitary, venturing to colder waters and only returning to warmer regions to mate.

These solitary male giants can dive deeper and travel further than females, but despite their more independent lifestyle, they are just as fascinating! 🌊
