Era el inicio de la pandemia. ¿Imaginas una inversión dinero y esfuerzo de 2 años y terminar cuando empieza la pandemia? Justo eso ocurrió.
Eran los amigos de la compañía nacional dominicana de danza, bajo los arcos de la piscina.
Este proyecto es familiar, somos dos españoles que decidimos restaurar un edificio en ruinas, primando el espacio de patio y jardines antes que aumentar el numero de habitaciones. El resultado es un espacio de más privacidad y espacio que casi todos los lugares cercanos.
Elegimos restaurar en lugar de demoler y construir, porque el edificio más ecológico es el que ya existe. No hay imitaciones de arquitectura antigua. Aquí lo antiguo es antiguo, y lo nuevo es nuevo.
Nos honra contar la historia del edificio, parte primer hospital de América, San Nicolás de Bari.

Cuando restauramos la villa, se encontraron arcos del Hospital Nicolás de Bari, de 1503. 🚀
Aquí no hay réplicas de arquitectura colonial. No hay arcos simulados. Lo antiguo es antiguo, y lo nuevo es nuevo. 🇩🇴

El tono calmado, natural, y minimalista de nuestra villa.🌾
Al rentarla, disfrutas de total privacidad, ya que sólo su grupo tiene acceso. A diferencia de hoteles, no hay otros clientes o staff presentes.

Why we chose reusable materials? (earth, wood, lime)
The production of steel and concrete alone accounts for about 20% of global emissions.
In order to have any chance of survival on this planet we need to drastically reduce embodied emissions by using decarbonized, recoverable and reusable materials.
Building with materials with a high ecological footprint such as , is cheaper because nobody pays for the emissions derived from their production and installation, but the money "saved" is mortgaged to future generations.

Hidden gem🤎
Our backyard walls were underestimated at first, as our eyes were fixed on the front Caribbean style house and facade.
The rammed earth walls were darkened by time, at state of ruin.
Until archaeology research was done on wall bricks. Some were 32cm long, among the oldest found in the city.
This length meant they were brought on ships from Spain. ⚓ As local production started around 1515, these walls date from earlier
The king advised to start baking bricks locally, as the boats risked from sinking for this only matter.

Una joya oculta. Nuestros muros de atrás pasaron desapercibidos, ya que estábamos enamorados de la casa y fachada de estilo caribeño.
Estaban ennegrecidos por el tiempo, y todo era una ruina.
Hasta que llegó un experto en restauración y midió los ladrillos. Al ser de 32cm, significaba que habían sido tranidos desde España. ⚓ Osea, al menos eran de antes de 1515!!
Por lo visto se recomendó la producción local porque los barcos podían hundirse solo por este hecho.

Nature within. Most of our space is open, filled with plants and birds.
Instead of filling the space with concrete (more rooms), we chose the opposite way.
We must say summer time is all year long here.

Guests love this loft. Possibly as it faces the garden, the historic gate and bathroom tiles.
This room was literally inside the Hospital built on 1500's. The gate was found during revamp. We love the brick work.

Los huéspedes adoran el diseño en FIXIE.😍 Se sorprenden al encontrar muebles de madera maciza en lugar de Ikea, por ejemplo. Y es que ya existen demasiados "Airbnb", donde los inversores sólo piensan en la rentabilidad. Sin carácter. En FIXIE intentamos lo contrario. Pocas unidades, pero más exclusividad y más diseño. 🌾 Un lugar memorable, no sólo rentable.🙂
