Pañacocha Program (Piranha Lake)
5 Days \ 4 Nights
1st Day: Coca - Pañayacu - Pañacocha
From Coca, we will take a motorized canoe and begin our trip along the Napo River until we reach the Pañayacu River. It will take approximately 5 hours, with lunch along the way. Our final destination will be Pañacocha Lodge. Optional night walk after dinner.
2nd Day: Pañacocha
After breakfast we will go for a walk through the rainforest, looking at different kinds of medicinal plants, trees and insects. Possible viewing of monkeys and other animals. Later that afternoon we will navigate up the Pañayacu River for about two hours, experiencing some of the incredible flora and fauna of the area. This will be a perfect time for bird watching, pictures and seeing monkeys and other animals.
3rd Day: Pañacocha and the surrounding lagoons
In the morning we will go by dugout paddle canoe through the lagoons and mangroves where we will see several types of native birds, such as Caciques, Parrots, Macaws, Kingfishers and Hoatzins. In the late afternoon you can try your hand at piranha fishing and get the chance to see pink fresh water dolphins.
4th Day: Pañacocha
After breakfast we will do some bird watching around Pañacocha and then walk for about two hours through the rainforest. Later that evening we will go out in the canoes to look for caiman (native crocodiles).
5th Day: Pañacocha - Rio Napo - Coca
There will be a chance for an early morning activity before departure. Later, we will navigate upriver to Coca, with a chance to visit a native family along the way. We will stop for lunch on the river, and our services will end once we reach Coca.
Our tours include licensed English-speaking guides, three meals a day (starting with lunch on the first day and ending with lunch on the last day), community entrance fee, all canoe transportation, rubber boots and accommodation in double rooms- not to mention a true jungle experience!
Note: The program may vary according to weather conditions and the passengers’ interests.
