To those of you who are in Cuenca today December 31 and would like to see something traditional, I recommend you to visit and explore the Historic District to know about the tradition of the "monigotes" of the different neighborhoods in Cuenca. The different neighborhoods organize to set stages with dolls made out of recycled material representing a relevant event of the year. There are several of these stages throughout all of Cuenca, but in the historic district you will be able to see more of them together.

ESPAÑOL: El 3 de noviembre de 1820, Cuenca declaró su independencia del dominio colonial español, uniéndose a la lucha más amplia por la independencia ecuatoriana. Esta declaración se produjo después de la independencia de Guayaquil el 9 de octubre de 1820 y hoy en día se conmemora y celebra como un día festivo nacional en Ecuador. Este fue el comienzo del camino hacia convertirnos en el lugar tan célebre y culturalmente rico que somos hoy.

Last Saturday, October 14th, we had the opportunity to be part of an incredible adventure in Azogues. This was made possible thanks to the kind invitation of GAD Municipal de Azogues and the tourism department , who organized the FAM PRESS and FAM TRIP.

This experience proved to be extremely enriching, full of learning and discoveries. Not only did we have the privilege to explore the attractions and savor the exquisite cuisine that this city has to offer, but we also shared unforgettable moments with an extraordinary group of passionate content creators devoted to tourism.

Cañari women celebrate Killa Raymi.

The ceremonial site Shunkumarka in the parish General Morales of the canton of Cañar was the place where women from different communities of the canton held a ritual ceremony of flowering to celebrate the Killa Raymi, or feast of the moon.

The celebration began with a discussion on the importance of this celebration, held at the headquarters of the UPOIS; then the ritual ceremony was held in Shunkumarka.

The delegations returned to the parish center to receive a dozen walkers who came from the Puñay hill, proceeded with the pampa mesa, and the presentation of dances and artists.

The celebration pays homage to Mama Killa, or mother moon, the earth, fertility and all female deities. September 21 also marks the beginning of the agricultural cycle with the planting of corn. The Killa Raymi ritual is promoted by the Municipal Government, the Parish Government of General Morales and the Colectivo Taripay.

ARTISAN VILLAGES TOUR IN AZUAY

This past weekend a group of Cuenca had the opportunity to explore the different cantons of Azuay province. In Sigsig, they visited the guitar workshop, where they could admire the craftsmanship behind these beautiful instruments. In Chordeleg, they visited Puertas del Sol jewelry workshop and clay figurines.

Lastly, in Gualaceo, they enjoyed the experience at the Museum of Makanas.

They also had the chance to meet some expert artisans who are passionate about their crafts.
