Living just to the north of Baltra, Seymour is a low island consisting of uplifted submarine lava.
it is covered with a forest of Dwarf Palo Santo trees and is the breeding site of both frigatesbirds and two of the bo***es. The trail leads from the small dock, along the coast, past an area where Marine Iguanas nest and then loops into the Palo Santo forest past nesting frigatebirds and both Nazca and Blue footed Bo***es. You may also see a Red-footed Boobie here though this species dos not nest on Seymour.

No filter need it!

Photo taken on Isabela Island.

American Flamingo, an unmistakable bird (140-145 com in height), with immensely long legs, a long neck and striking pink to vermilion plumage. The plumage coloration varies with amount of carotenoid pigment consumed in their diet of crustaceans and micro-organisms, filtered out of the saline waters of the coastal lagoons where they are found. The black wing primaries are only visible in flight. The legs and feet are pink or grey or flesh coloured; the feet are webbed, enabling the birds to swim.

The Galapagos Sea Lion, is the largest animal found on land in the islands, While the normal population is estimated to be around 50.000, this can be severely reduced by a major el Niño event which seriously affect their food supply.

They live very largely on fish and can be found out at sea, anywhere around the islands, and relaxing on a paddle board is also possible from time to time 😎

Bartholomew, a very impressive little island in front of Sullivan Bay, with a landscape of a real volcanic desolation: tuff cones, spatter cones, scoria formations and black volcanic sand. From the top of the volcano

A trail of 600–meters with stairs leads to the Summit of the central of the volcano. From the top of the volcano, the view is extraordinary and offers one of the most emblematic sceneries of the Galapagos Islands,. Towards the east, a field of spatter cones punctuates the island. Towards the west, one is amazed by the isthmus of Bartolome, cover by mangroves and bordered by two small coves of Golden sand in the shape of half moons. On the north beach, the Pinnacle Rock stands like a finger pointed to the sky.

Marine iguanas from different islands also vary in size and coloration. Iguanas living on large islands are usually bigger, whereas those on islands smaller than 25 km2 are usually dwarf. Throughout most of the archipelago, the iguanas are blackish. However, on the southern islands (española and Floreana) dominant males acquire a striking “Christmas” coloration boasting bright red with green and/or blue legs during the breeding season, although the cause for this unique color change remains enigmatic

Much the commonest species of turtle found in the Galapagos and the only one to breed in the islands. It is a subspecies of the Pacific Green or Black Turtle. They spend most of their lives in shallow lagoons and waters around the islands. The shell is generally dark green to black, but it does vary and can be an attractive yellow tortoiseshell colour.

The red footed b***y. This is the lightest b***y, with a weight of about one kilogram. Colour is light brown, with a bluish beak. There is also a white variety, called the "morpho Blanco" the red feet are adapted to gripping branches; thus it is the only b***y to nest in trees

The reproduction season depends on the availability of food. The chicks may easily die of hunger during the first week of their life. Despite the high mortality rate, only one egg is laid. The time necessary to breed young does not allow an annual cycle of reproduction. Consequently, a period of 14 months elapses before the red-free b***y nest again

How is the snorkel in the Galapagos island? Well! Here an update with the dolphins - part II😎

The Bottlenose, the most commonly observed dolphin in Galapagos, frequently rides the bow wave of ships and yachts. It’s mid-gray on the back and paler underneath. It’s name stems from the short (7-8 cm) beak. The dorsal fin is 15-20 cm high and strongly back curved.
