The Spectacled bear, also known as the South American or Andean bear, is an endangered species of bear that is native to the Andes mountains.
They get their name from the cream coloured fur around their eyes.
They live in the dense forests of the Andean slopes and feed mainly on fruit, cacti, honey, and berries, as well as the odd small rodent, bird, or insect to supplement their diet.
The female has one or two cubs a year. The cubs stay with the mother for up to 8 months. Once they reach maturity, they become solitary animals, only being seen with others in mating season.
