The Golden orb-weaver spider belongs to a genus of spider (Nephila), which are known for the impressive webs they weave. The name of the spider derives from the gold colour of the thread when it is lit by the sun.

The strong web traps prey such as flies and beetles, which the spider will wrap and feed upon.

The white fronted capuchin, once considered to be one species of monkey (cebus albifrons), is now divided into a number of different species, including the Ecuadorian capuchin (cebus aequatorialis).

A new world primate, the white fronted capuchin, can be found in the tropical forests of a number of South American countries, including Ecuador.

Arboreal creatures, they use their prehensile tails, which are adapted to grab onto branches to support their bodies while they forage for food at all levels of the forest . Being omnivores their diet is a mix of berries, fruit, small animals, bird eggs, shellfish, and crabs.

The blue morpho butterfly with their vivid and iridescent blue colouring are one of the largest butterflies in the world, with a wing span of up to 8 inches.

Living in the tropical forests of Latin America, they are one of an estimated 4,000 species of butterfly found in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest and Mindo cloud forest.

Threatened by natural predators like the jacamar and flycatcher, humans are also a threat, as collectors and artists seek them out for their beauty. However, it is deforestation and habitat fragmentation that is by far the greatest threat not only to the blue morpho butterfly but many other species too.
