🦎 6 Facts about the Yellow Land Iguana of Galapagos

🌞 These land-loving iguanas prefer the dry, rugged landscapes of the Galapagos—far from their ocean-splashing cousins, the marine iguanas.
🍃 Mostly veggie fans, they munch on plants but sometimes get adventurous with centipedes and even carrion! 😳
🌵 Freshwater? Who needs it! They stay hydrated by snacking on the juicy Opuntia cactus. 💧
🦎 The yellow land iguana is one of three Galapagos land iguana species, all endemic to the archipelago.
🌋 The other two species are the pink land iguana 💗 (C. marthae), found only on Wolf Volcano on Isabela Island, and the pale land iguana (C. pallidus).
⚠️ With around 5,000 yellow land iguanas across the islands, they’re a vulnerable treasure—so look but don’t touch! 🐢

The Galapagos Short-eared Owl is endemic to the Galapagos Islands. It is smaller and darker than its continental relatives. 🦉

Known for its silent flight and small ear tufts, this amazing owl has a wingspan of up to 100 cm. Females are usually larger than males, but both share the same striking features.

🇪🇨 In Ecuador, All Souls’ Day (Día de los Difuntos) is a tradition full of meaning, where we remember and honor our loved ones. One of the most outstanding customs is to enjoy colada morada and guaguas de pan.

The colada morada, a thick and sweet drink made from fruits and spices, is a true symbol of this date, while the guaguas de pan, small bread in the shape of a doll, represent the deceased. Together, they are part of a tradition that unites families in homage and celebration of life.
