This religious festival is the most important in the province. Its appeal makes it a massive celebration, attended by thousands of people from the city of Cuenca and other communities in Azuay.

The Pase del Niño Viajero involves religious elements but also carries a significant cultural, social, and symbolic weight. This is evident not only in the celebration on December 24 but also in the complex organization and the participation of multiple social actors: sponsors, artisans who craft the costumes months in advance, local neighborhoods, town bands, nonprofit associations, congregations, and more.
