Toucan Barbet (YUMBO)

These birds 🐦 are found 1,400 to 2,400 meters above sea level in the Northwest of Quito. They are characterized by their unique male/female duet singing. They are often found in pairs or reduced groups, and move through the forest in search of food, particularly guarumo or cecropia inflorescences. The species is known locally as “yumbo bird”, a reference to the ancient inhabitants of northwestern Quito.

Pumapungo is an archaeological park, located in the Historic Center of the city of Cuenca. It was built at the end of the 15th century and inside it were the Temple of the Sun and the convent of the Virgins of the Sun, which were part of one of the most imposing and beautiful cities of the ancient Inca empire, Tomebamba, which had buildings dedicated to the political, administrative and religious use.

The Pumapungo ruins are the largest set of Inca archaeological remains south of Ingapirca. It represents a recognition of the values of the Cañari or Inca, who have left a permanent imprint of their identity in the city of Cuenca and its surroundings.

Hummingbirds are the smallest birds, which can weigh from 2 to 3 grams and the largest between 20 to 22 grams.
