If someone wearing a snorkel popped out of the water next to us, we would probably have a bigger reaction than this Galapagos Penguin did! This clip is a beautiful example of how unafraid the animals in the Galapagos Islands are, as well as just how cute and charismatic the local penguins can be. (Did you see that tail wiggle?) Out of the 18 unique species of penguins found on the planet, the Galapagos Penguin lives the furthest north.
Who will you discover on your safari?

On behalf of our entire team at Galapagos Safari Camp, we wish you and your family a very happy holiday season. We hope that however you prefer to celebrate, this time is filled with loved ones and time to do the things you love. May this upbeat clip of our team member Jorge on his traditional Andean "charango" puts a smile on your face, as it did ours!

Did you know? Blue-footed boobies are not born with blue feet! They actually have pale feet that will only acquire their characteristic blue hue as they begin consuming carotenoids found in the fish their parents feed them. And this chick, to be sure, is more than ready for one of those meals—𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 please!
Whether you are preparing for your first trip to the Galapagos Islands or simply curious, you can find out more about our species (and many more) in our extensive wildlife guide found at the link below.

We are thrilled to announce big news in camp! Next summer, we will be replacing some of our existing Safari Tents with Family Safari Tents. Each Family Safari Tent features two separate sleeping areas connected by a shared living room, with each sleeping area having its own private bathroom. One room has a double bed, and the other has two single beds, with the option of adding a third bed if required. This flexible layout provides a comfortable and adaptable space, ideal for larger families or groups.
The Family Safari Tents are now available to book beginning in June 2025. For more information, including pricing, contact us at the link below.

Enjoy this 22-second clip from the main lodge here at Galapagos Safari Camp, captured by one of our team members. Sound on to enjoy the birdlife and general ambiance that is audible at all times through the canvas walls of our secluded safari tents, found just below. As you can see, our location on Santa Cruz Island is just far enough away from the main tourist track to be incredibly peaceful, while close enough that remote, uninhabited islands are within reach.

While the lookouts from each of our nine safari-style canvas tents is incredible, so is the view from above! We think this vantage point offers a great feel for the safari camp experience, showing off just how "wild" our perch is here on Santa Cruz Island. As you can see, great care was taken during the construction of the camp not to disturb the vegetation, not only for the benefit of the land and animals who inhabit it, but also for our guests to have the most authentic experience possible. We welcome you to come and see for yourself!

In her recent podcast with Lea Lane (tune in at the link in our bio), our co-founder Stephanie answered a question about whether or not it's safe to swim with sharks in the Galapagos. 🦈🤿 And while we must always exercise caution while interacting with wildlife, this clip from our founders Michael and Stephanie shows that it's definitely safe to swim in close proximity with most species!

As you turn your lights off in your private canvas tent, the stars and passing clouds of the Southern Hemisphere dance across the sky. On a clear night, the Galapagos Islands are an incredible destination for star gazing. And no matter the weather (or moon phase), it's 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 a peaceful night sleeping in the Santa Cruz Highlands.

Welcome home. We will forever cherish this beautiful clip from our dear friend Clark Kotula Representation & Sales Support featuring our main entryway and view from the lodge. From the vegetation-lined walkway through the interior to the floor-to-ceiling windows, we hope our intention of “bringing the outside in” shines through every visit to our home here in the Galapagos Islands. (And our smiling team members are truly the cherry on top!)

In honor of #WorldOceansDay, we're celebrating the incredibly rich waters that make up our beautiful archipelago in the Galapagos Islands. It's here that three distinct ocean currents converge–the Humboldt, Panama, and Cromwell–creating an environment unlike anywhere else on earth.
The Humboldt Current, named after German naturalist and polymath Alexander Von Humboldt whose name graces an impressive number of natural features across the Americas, plays perhaps the biggest role in life in the Galapagos. It draws cold, nutrient-dense water up from Antarctica, supporting many of our species—from plankton to penguins and even orca whales.
Even without a biology degree, we think that learning more about our unique setting is a rewarding way to more fully enjoy your time on vacation in the Galapagos Islands!

Easily one of the most charismatic of our endemic creatures, the Galapagos Penguin. 🐧🫶🏼 A close relative of the Humboldt Penguin, which seasonally makes its way from the colder regions of Chile as far north as southern continental Ecuador, it is surmised that these individuals were originally Humboldt penguins who lost their way. Evolving to the warmer climate of the Galapagos archipelago, today they are the smallest penguin on the planet—roughly half the height of the Emperor Penguin in the south pole. Only about 2,000 of these charming birds remain, resulting in their current endangered status.
Guests hoping to spot a Galapagos Penguin, as @ckknowslatinamerica did here, will want to partake in our Isabela Island Safari or Bartolomé Island excursion for the best odds of ticking this one off the list!

A member of our welcoming committee, seen here shirking his duties. This mammoth Galapagos Giant Tortoise is one of the largest we've ever seen in camp! These incredible animals can live to be nearly 200 years old, which means that it's possible that this tortoise was born shortly after Charles Darwin visited our archipelago in the 1830s. A true testament to slowing down!
