(1)

Bordering the pristine Galapagos National Park and nestled into the wild highlands of Santa Cruz Island, in the heart of the Galapagos Archipelago, our family-owned safari camp is ideally located - private, quiet, and far from the crowds of Puerto Ayora - making it the ideal base and perfect springboard for discovering the other-worldly landscapes, amazing wildlife and spell-binding magic of this

remote archipelago, made famous by Charles Darwin nearly two centuries ago. We are passionate about creating tailor-made Safaris, moments for you and your loved ones to have fun, connect and explore our wild world of incredible natural encounters.

This Galapagos Marine Iguana either seems oblivious to his friend, or as if he is enjoying the company! It's not uncommon for Galapagos Lava Lizards to get up close and personal with their larger reptile neighbors. There are actually seven species of Lava Lizard found across the archipelago, and they are all mainly found in the lowlands, sunbathing with groups of Marine Iguanas as pictured here.

Learn more about the unique species you have the chance to see while on safari with us–like the Galapagos Mockingbird, Sea Lions, and many more–at the link below.

We welcome children age two and up, meaning toddlers to teens are invited to hang out with our kid-friendly guides to develop a deeper understanding of the world around us, all within the context of the Galapagos Islands. A peek into the interior of the three-bedroom Family Suite. These rooms might have four walls (as opposed to our canvas Safari Tents), but they are still designed to draw you closer to nature during your time with us. If you look closely you'll see earthen elements throughout, like the beautiful wood desk and stone sink, that remind you that this isn't your typical "hotel" experience. After all, panoramic views down to the ocean and miles of pathways to explore are quite literally just outside the door.

While many South American countries are known for coffee, the focus in the Galapagos Islands is typically on the wildlife (and for good reason). But that doesn't mean we go caffeine free! On our five-day Classic Safari, guests have the opportunity to tour a working farm on Santa Cruz Island that produces sugar cane liqueur and coffee. Learn about different methods used to refine sugar cane, including the use of a mule-driven press. (Note: the mule may be off-duty during your visit!)

What is this cheeky barn owl doing in the Galapagos Islands? While often associated with more of a countryside setting (no doubt because of the word “barn”), this species has been a resident of the Galapagos Islands for a long time. Indeed, it is endemic to the islands! Pictured here is one of our resident owls, who often regales guests with charismatic head tilting displays after dinner on the railing of the main lodge. Our guides have even taken the liberty of naming a few return visitors, like Albert and Saint Peter, because of how often they come around.

As always while no sighting is guaranteed while on safari in the Galapagos, your chances of spotting one of these heart-shaped faces after the sun goes down is higher than average!

Most travelers only make the journey to our archipelago once in a lifetime; so we are especially honored when a return visitor decides to base their stay with us! Their kind review paraphrased here summarizes their time at camp. Thank you to this guest for taking the time to leave such a compliment for our team.

For our followers who are still researching an upcoming trip to the Galapagos Islands, you can find this full review among many others at .

Bordering the highly protected and uninhabited Galapagos National Park, Galapagos Safari Camp offers an exceptional setting for astro adventures. Far from other artificial light sources, our location provides guests a pristine dark sky in which to explore the wonders of the cosmos. ✨📷 Whether relaxing in hammocks on the private decks of our Safari Tents or the Family Suite or gathering on the communal Observation Deck, guests can view stars, planets, and other celestial phenomena that are often visible in our night skies.

Learn more about the beneficial effects of our dark skies on wildlife, reducing our carbon footprint, and more (including photography resources and family-friendly star games) below.

For global travelers who have a preference for staying at sea level on the mainland, there is no better choice than Hotel del Parque. This glamorous property is nestled in the historic district of Guayaquil, where parrots frequent the foliage-lined streets and the sound of horse hooves on cobblestones can often be heard. Not only is this a great hub for culture, food, and sightseeing, but it’s at a convenient 13 feet (3.9 meters) above sea level, which means travelers of all ages and abilities can breathe easy. 💨

Contact our Safari Designers at [email protected] to learn more about adding on a stay at Hotel del Parque to your time here in Ecuador. We are more than happy to help!

If someone wearing a snorkel popped out of the water next to us, we would probably have a bigger reaction than this Galapagos Penguin did! This clip is a beautiful example of how unafraid the animals in the Galapagos Islands are, as well as just how cute and charismatic the local penguins can be. (Did you see that tail wiggle?) Out of the 18 unique species of penguins found on the planet, the Galapagos Penguin lives the furthest north.

Who will you discover on your safari?

Far from the distractions of daily life, our Camp in the Santa Cruz Highlands welcomes guests to tune into the elements and as they say, “disconnect to reconnect.” Pictured here by Ken Kochey is our original Family Suite, where our founders Stephanie and Michael lived and raised their children while establishing camp over a decade ago. Today it welcomes guests form around the world with its three bedrooms and beautiful large deck for morning coffee and stargazing. Below, our nine Safari Tents nestle discreetly in the foliage. Welcome home!

On behalf of our entire team at Galapagos Safari Camp, we wish you and your family a very happy holiday season. We hope that however you prefer to celebrate, this time is filled with loved ones and time to do the things you love. May this upbeat clip of our team member Jorge on his traditional Andean "charango" puts a smile on your face, as it did ours!

The creative juices have been flowing at Camp this month, and we have been eager to share a few of the clips from our team with you! If you are new here, welcome to the series: an unfiltered, intermittent of the images our team shares internally. We hope they bring a bit of the Galapagos to your day, wherever you are in the world! (Don't miss number five! 🦉👋🏼)

1: A delicious mid-afternoon treat served up by our incredible chef team.
2: Two Giant Galapagos Tortoises having a quick chat on our main road. (They were most likely two males trying to determine dominance.)
3: A gorgeous rainbow photographed from the Family Suite.
4: "Over the shoulder" capture of one of our Safari Tents, with a view of the ocean below.
5: You never know who will greet you when you open your eyes first thing in the Galapagos!

We have highlighted the Magnificent Frigatebird quite a lot, but who can blame us! (Clearly, not the person who gave this bird their common name.) These daring aerialists are always exciting to spot on safari, even if you've seen them a hundred times before. With a truly astonishing wingspan of up to 7.5 feet (245 cm), they have the largest wingspan-to-weight ratio of any species of bird on earth. For photographers, you just never know how these wings will be positioned when that shutter clicks—making every sighting a new and exciting photo opportunity.

From these charismatic rooms–each with their own name and personality–to the plunge pool in the Andean Relaxation Center, it's easy to feel at home at our 🇪🇨 feature: Hacienda Zuleta. These interiors are a cozy complement to the wonders that await outside, like hiking and horseback riding next to mysterious pre-Inca burial mounds, visiting the condor breeding program, and more.

For travelers hoping to experience the Andes, we like to recommend a two night stay at Hacienda Zuleta either at the beginning or end of your journey through Ecuador. Our Safari Designers can help craft the perfect trip just for you—reach out at the link below!

These macro photos of the Giant Galapagos Tortoise were taken by our very own co-founder, Michael, during our recent Founders' Safari. We appreciate that even if you've spent years living here in the highlands of the Galapagos Islands, if you look closely enough, there is always something new to see.

One of the ways that we support experiences for the entire family is to present a little question with breakfast each day. Our hope is that this helps to draw kids off any lingering devices that have made their way to the table and to ignite curiosity and conversation, instead. And if you find yourself habitually reaching for your pocket to search for the answer on the internet, we encourage you to resist, too! Sometimes it may take a few hours to find the answer, as your guided morning excursion in the Galapagos will often reveal the whole story—and much more.

Pictured here: kids, in their natural habitat. We love to see young adventurers exploring in the wild during their time with us in the Galapagos Islands! That's why our Family Safari–5 nights, 6 days–is designed for travelers of all ages. In addition to things like kid-friendly guides and an educational Kids Club, our Family Safari Tents coming next summer will only add to the possibilities for families hoping to experience the Galapagos Islands together.

Did you know? Blue-footed bo***es are not born with blue feet! They actually have pale feet that will only acquire their characteristic blue hue as they begin consuming carotenoids found in the fish their parents feed them. And this chick, to be sure, is more than ready for one of those meals—𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 please!

Whether you are preparing for your first trip to the Galapagos Islands or simply curious, you can find out more about our species (and many more) in our extensive wildlife guide found at the link below.
