Galapagos Safari Camp

Galapagos Safari Camp Flexible and personalised, land and sea safaris in the Galapagos Islands.
(1)

Bordering the pristine Galapagos National Park and nestled into the wild highlands of Santa Cruz Island, in the heart of the Galapagos Archipelago, our family-owned safari camp is ideally located - private, quiet, and far from the crowds of Puerto Ayora - making it the ideal base and perfect springboard for discovering the other-worldly landscapes, amazing wildlife and spell-binding magic of this

remote archipelago, made famous by Charles Darwin nearly two centuries ago. We are passionate about creating tailor-made Safaris, moments for you and your loved ones to have fun, connect and explore our wild world of incredible natural encounters.

On behalf of our entire team at Galapagos Safari Camp, we wish you and your family a very happy holiday season. We hope that however you prefer to celebrate, this time is filled with loved ones and time to do the things you love. May this upbeat clip of our team member Jorge on his traditional Andean "charango" puts a smile on your face, as it did ours!

The creative juices have been flowing at Camp this month, and we have been eager to share a few of the clips from our team with you! If you are new here, welcome to the series: an unfiltered, intermittent of the images our team shares internally. We hope they bring a bit of the Galapagos to your day, wherever you are in the world! (Don't miss number five! 🦉👋🏼)

1: A delicious mid-afternoon treat served up by our incredible chef team.
2: Two Giant Galapagos Tortoises having a quick chat on our main road. (They were most likely two males trying to determine dominance.)
3: A gorgeous rainbow photographed from the Family Suite.
4: "Over the shoulder" capture of one of our Safari Tents, with a view of the ocean below.
5: You never know who will greet you when you open your eyes first thing in the Galapagos!

We have highlighted the Magnificent Frigatebird quite a lot, but who can blame us! (Clearly, not the person who gave this bird their common name.) These daring aerialists are always exciting to spot on safari, even if you've seen them a hundred times before. With a truly astonishing wingspan of up to 7.5 feet (245 cm), they have the largest wingspan-to-weight ratio of any species of bird on earth. For photographers, you just never know how these wings will be positioned when that shutter clicks—making every sighting a new and exciting photo opportunity.

From these charismatic rooms–each with their own name and personality–to the plunge pool in the Andean Relaxation Center, it's easy to feel at home at our 🇪🇨 feature: Hacienda Zuleta. These interiors are a cozy complement to the wonders that await outside, like hiking and horseback riding next to mysterious pre-Inca burial mounds, visiting the condor breeding program, and more.

For travelers hoping to experience the Andes, we like to recommend a two night stay at Hacienda Zuleta either at the beginning or end of your journey through Ecuador. Our Safari Designers can help craft the perfect trip just for you—reach out at the link below!

These macro photos of the Giant Galapagos Tortoise were taken by our very own co-founder, Michael, during our recent Founders' Safari. We appreciate that even if you've spent years living here in the highlands of the Galapagos Islands, if you look closely enough, there is always something new to see.

One of the ways that we support experiences for the entire family is to present a little question with breakfast each day. Our hope is that this helps to draw kids off any lingering devices that have made their way to the table and to ignite curiosity and conversation, instead. And if you find yourself habitually reaching for your pocket to search for the answer on the internet, we encourage you to resist, too! Sometimes it may take a few hours to find the answer, as your guided morning excursion in the Galapagos will often reveal the whole story—and much more.

Pictured here: kids, in their natural habitat. We love to see young adventurers exploring in the wild during their time with us in the Galapagos Islands! That's why our Family Safari–5 nights, 6 days–is designed for travelers of all ages. In addition to things like kid-friendly guides and an educational Kids Club, our Family Safari Tents coming next summer will only add to the possibilities for families hoping to experience the Galapagos Islands together.

Did you know? Blue-footed bo***es are not born with blue feet! They actually have pale feet that will only acquire their characteristic blue hue as they begin consuming carotenoids found in the fish their parents feed them. And this chick, to be sure, is more than ready for one of those meals—𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 please!

Whether you are preparing for your first trip to the Galapagos Islands or simply curious, you can find out more about our species (and many more) in our extensive wildlife guide found at the link below.

Our chocolate tasting in historic Quito is a journey for more than just the tastebuds! We've paired our signature experience with the perfect setting: the Guayasamin Foundation Museum. The former residence of Oswaldo Guayasamín, Ecuador's most celebrated contemporary painter who passed away in 1999, today it is a destination for art aficionados from around the world. Not only will you learn about the intricacies of some of the world's rarest cacao, but you will enjoy artwork in an especially inspirational historic home.

You truly don't have to go far to witness the world-famous Galapagos Finch during your time in the Galapagos Islands. Simply kick back at our pool and observe these small, understated birds as they come and go from one of their most reliable local watering holes.

What is it, exactly, that made these small birds so remarkable to Charles Darwin? The fact that on islands only a few miles apart, with such similar environments, they evolved into 15 (or even 17 depending on who you ask) species. For example, some finches have long, pointy beaks to eat prickly pear cactus flowers while others have shorter beaks, ideal for eating seeds right off the ground.

Get all the details–including how the Galapagos Finch is continuing to evolve right before our very eyes–at the link below.

The best way to skip mud on your tires in Ecuador's Cloud Forest? Take your ride to the sky. One of the most unique activities available at our 🇪🇨 feature, Mashpi Lodge, the Sky Bike allows guests to get a 360˚ view of the Chocó Cloud Forest while under their own power. (Look closely, and you'll see how the person in the back has pedals to control the speed of the "bike.") Also pictured in our selection are several stunning creatures who call the region home, delicious fare served up by the friendly Mashpi team, and a sumptuous bath setting where you can soak it all in.

Our team is more than happy to coordinate your mainland Ecuador extension and make recommendations based on your preferences. Get in touch with our Safari Designers at [email protected] to learn more.

We love to share our family-owned-and-operated camp with other families from around the world—especially when they 𝘢𝘭𝘭 come to visit! During their planning process, this group had the option to book the three-room family suite or opt to spread out in a number of our canvas safari tents. Every family has a different dynamic and preference and it's our pleasure to accommodate each group's needs. Thank you very much to this traveler for trusting us with their special vacation, and for taking the time to leave a review! ✨

We are thrilled to announce big news in camp! Next summer, we will be replacing some of our existing Safari Tents with Family Safari Tents. Each Family Safari Tent features two separate sleeping areas connected by a shared living room, with each sleeping area having its own private bathroom. One room has a double bed, and the other has two single beds, with the option of adding a third bed if required. This flexible layout provides a comfortable and adaptable space, ideal for larger families or groups.

The Family Safari Tents are now available to book beginning in June 2025. For more information, including pricing, contact us at the link below.

While we often point to our four-course dinner as our signature experience, breakfast is also a worthy highlight of the day! Here, you'll find a smattering of options: from our classic Ecuadorean breakfast with plantain patties, sausage, eggs, and cheese to a side of perfectly crispy bacon for those who juuuust can't leave their staples at home. (Items like granola, pancakes, and much more are also available.) No matter which you select, you certainly won't go hungry during your stay!

It's not just the animals that make the Galapagos Islands so unique. These volcanic, semi-arid islands were once home to expansive and lush 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢 forests—the only forests of their kind on the planet. Made up of 15 species of relatively short-lived trees from the sunflower family, these "giant daisy trees" provide important habitat for our endemic species, including finches and the insects they depend on to survive. Today, only 1% of these original forests remain.

Through our conservation efforts at Galapagos Safari Camp, we hope to have a small but measurable impact on the preservation of this unique and breathtaking ecosystem.

When you book a journey to the Galapagos Islands with us, you have the choice of several types of stay: one of which is our signature family safari. Apart from kid-friendly guides and food, what exactly does that mean?

Our small size and experience in family travel (after all, our co-founders raised their children here over many years) means that we understand what it takes to craft age-appropriate experiences that are engaging, educational and above all, fun! Our flexible schedules, private land tours and tailor-made itineraries give families the freedom to explore the Galapagos Islands at their own pace, and according to their own needs and interests. No set departures, here!

Did you know? The Galapagos Green Sea Turtle is the only species of sea turtle to nest in the Galapagos Islands. These beautiful and seemingly graceful creatures can weigh an astounding 350 pounds, though you would never be able to tell based on how weightlessly they move through the currents. The only herbivorous species of sea turtle, they survive on a diet of algae and seagrass, which lends to their green hue (and hence, their name).

Lucky snorkelers and divers may spot a sea turtle cruise past on their guided outing during their stay with us. These are only one of the many seaworthy reptiles that inhabit our diverse and vibrant waters!
