🌟March recommendations from our New Project Manager – Mareli Reinhold 🌟

I’m Mareli Reinhold, and I’m excited to join the Motor team as the new Project Manager! I’m originally from Pärnu and have a background in art history, having studied at both Tartu University and the Estonian Academy of Arts. Over the years, I’ve gathered diverse experience in fields ranging from curating and project management to museum education, with my most recent role being the head of a gallery. I'm thrilled to bring my experience and passion to this new role at Motor! 🚀

Here are a few of my personal recommendations:
📖 Book Suggestion:

One of my all-time favorites is Dostoevsky's The Idiot. I remember the first time I opened this book—it was a mesmerizing discovery. I’ve read it almost every year since, as it reveals so much about the human soul in a delicate and profound way.

📝 Article Suggestion:
I highly recommend keeping an eye on Daily JSTOR for insightful essays on art, literature, politics, and culture. A great example is "Surrealism in Cinema, 100 Years On," which explores how surrealism, originating in art and literature, shaped visual storytelling in film.

🎧 Podcast Suggestion:
A few years ago, I discovered the podcast "You're Wrong About." It’s a fun and light-hearted podcast where they break down pop culture and contemporary phenomena. It’s perfect for a relaxing listen, whether I’m walking my dog or just going about my day.

🎨 Museum Recommendation:
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam left a lasting impression on me. Not only does it showcase his incredible work, but his letters really bring his emotions, thoughts, and struggles to life. Listening to some of his most important letters, especially the ones exchanged with his brother, creates a deep personal connection with his life and art.

Motor's CEO, Ott Sarapuu, hosted an expert group from Germany's Federal Employment Agency, giving them a tour of PROTO avastustehas and offering a behind-the-scenes look at Motor's operations. The guests were particularly intrigued by how our exhibitions come to life—from concept to final product—and what matters most to us when creating an exhibit.

A huge thank you to Euroguidance Eesti Program Manager Margit Ramm and Kristina Orion, Deputy Head of the Career Services Department at the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, for this fantastic opportunity!

𝐄𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐯𝐮𝐬𝐯𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐝 𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚 – 𝐤𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐣𝐚̈𝐚̈𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐬. Meie veebipõhised karjääriteenused ja tehnoloogia kasutamine inimeste karjääri kujundamisel äratavad huvi üle maailma.

🇩🇪 Möödunud nädalal võõrustasime Saksamaa tööturuameti ekspertgruppi, kelle eesmärk on kaasajastada piirkondlikke karjäärikeskusi (BIZ). Rätsepatööna valminud õpiränne Tallinnas pakkus avastamisrõõmu ja inspireerivaid arutelusid.

✨ Programmi tipphetked:
▪️ e-Estonia esitluskeskuse ülevaade Eesti digiriigi võimalustest
▪️ Nortali kogemused digiriigi arendamisel Eestis ja Saksamaal
▪️ PROTO avastustehase loomise kogemused ja õpikohad tulevikuks
▪️ Eesti Töötukassa karjäärikeskused ja digimaailma lahendused

Aitäh Johanna-Kadri Kuusk e-Eesti esitluskeskusest, Hendrik Lume Nortalist, Ott Sarapuu Protost ja MOTORist ning Kristina Orion, Terje Kruup ja Sander Sevtšenko Töötukassast oma väärtusliku kogemuse jagamise eest!

Accessibility for Everyone!

Accessibility isn’t just about people with disabilities—it also benefits our growing population of elderly individuals and families with young children. For businesses, improving accessibility increases the potential customer base, strengthens brand reputation, enhances loyalty, and boosts customer satisfaction.

As part of the Estonia-Latvia Interreg cooperation project “Development of Accessible Tourism Routes” (Access Routes), guidelines have been created to help cultural and tourism businesses become more accessible in smart and practical ways.

These guidelines provide recommendations for tourism and hospitality businesses, as well as cultural institutions, to improve accessibility by considering the needs of visitors with different requirements. Accessibility can be ensured through ramps, elevators, and high-contrast signage, as well as by adapting designs to support low vision and hard of hearing visitors. For individuals with limited mobility, it is important to have level access and sufficient maneuvering space, while low vision visitors benefit from induction loops and proper lighting. Allergy-sensitive guests require dust-free environments, and even websites and menus should be accessible to all. The goal is to create an equally comfortable and safe experience for everyone.

Accessibility is also a key focus in our projects. A great example is the Seaplane Harbour (Eesti Meremuuseum) renovation, where we emphasized a high-contrast and clear signage system, tactile wayfinding solutions, and touchable models to enhance the visitor experience.

Discover with Motor is the corner of the internet, where we ask people from our team what are the things that have inspired them lately.

The suggestions for January come from our Public Procurement Specialist Triin Haaring.

📚 Book Recommendation
For anyone who tends to procrastinate on important tasks, I highly recommend Brian Tracy's “Eat That Frog!”. It teaches you how to stop procrastinating and get more done in less time. My biggest takeaway: “Identify your ‘frog’, break it down into smaller pieces, and just eat it.” I try to apply this principle daily in all aspects of life. 🐸💪

🎧 Podcast Recommendation
I listen to various podcasts almost every day, especially those about personal development, entrepreneurship, and financial freedom. One of my favorites from Estonia is “Rahareede”. While the show has ended, the topics are still highly relevant and worth listening to. Recently, I’ve also been tuning into “The Regan Hillyer Show”, which offers practical tips and inspiration on goal-setting and living a fulfilled life.

🏛️ Museum Recommendation
As someone passionate about ancient Greek and Roman culture, I always try to visit historical sites when traveling. My recent highlight was the ancient theater in Taormina, Sicily—built around 400 BC, it’s one of the best-preserved ancient theaters, with breathtaking views of Mount Etna! 🌋✨

🧶 Hobby Recommendation
While I’m not a huge fan of crafts, I discovered macramé a few years ago, and it’s been a fantastic way to unwind and let go of the daily grind. It's a perfect creative outlet that helps keep my mind balanced and focused on beauty.

Some workdays are cuter than others! 🐰 In April, the new exhibition at the Eesti Põllumajandusmuuseum will open, and we're working hard to finalize everything.

The exhibition will dive into the history of farming in Estonia, animal welfare, and more. Yesterday, our graphic designer and project manager visited Ülenurme for some testing and measuring but also ended up cuddling rabbits, cleaning ponies and meeting perky goats! 😍 Cuteness overload!

Until the new exhibition opens, you can still visit the current one, also the barn with animals is open to all visitors. 🐴

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

The theme for next year's Museum Night (Muuseumiöö) in Estonia is "In the Night, There’s a Book!"

Why "book"? Well, after a nationwide vote by museum professionals and enthusiasts, it was clear that a theme connected to storytelling, literature, and the power of books resonates deeply with us all. Plus, 2025 will be a landmark year as we celebrate 500 years since the first book in Estonian was printed! 🥳

The theme offers a perfect opportunity for museums to dive into their collections and share rare and fascinating prints, uncover unique stories, and explore the rich history of literature. "In the Night, There’s a Book!" could highlight everything from ancient manuscripts to modern works, and provide a chance to reflect on the power of reading, education, and storytelling. 📖

Other popular ideas for the theme included love, laughter, togetherness, and even a focus on accessibility issues – all showing a desire to make the world a better place.
But in the end, "In the Night, There’s a Book!" came out on top with 46% of the votes, outpacing other strong contenders like "In the Night, There’s Love" and "In the Night, There’s Buzz" (a nod to the importance of bees for our planet 🐝).
Every participating museum will have the chance to design their program around the theme in their own unique way, from showcasing rare books to telling captivating stories hidden in their collections.

Mark your calendars – Museum Night 2025 will be a celebration of books, knowledge, and the stories that shape us taking place on the 17th of May! 📅
Stay tuned for more details as we prepare for this amazing event!
