🌟 Exciting news! The nominees for the EMYA 2025 Museum Awards have been announced!

42 outstanding museums from across Europe have been selected to compete for this prestigious award. We extend our appreciation to the museums nominated for their dedication and commitment to upholding high standards of excellence in the museum sector.

The EMYA 2025 winners will be revealed at the Annual Conference & Awards Ceremony in Białystok, Poland, on May 24, 2025. 🎉

Forty two museums are nominated by the EMYA Jury to take part in this year's edition. We express our gratitude to the nominated museums who kept faith with EMYA in applying and in welcoming the judges. Stay tuned for more information!

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

The theme for next year's Museum Night (Muuseumiöö) in Estonia is "In the Night, There’s a Book!"

Why "book"? Well, after a nationwide vote by museum professionals and enthusiasts, it was clear that a theme connected to storytelling, literature, and the power of books resonates deeply with us all. Plus, 2025 will be a landmark year as we celebrate 500 years since the first book in Estonian was printed! 🥳

The theme offers a perfect opportunity for museums to dive into their collections and share rare and fascinating prints, uncover unique stories, and explore the rich history of literature. "In the Night, There’s a Book!" could highlight everything from ancient manuscripts to modern works, and provide a chance to reflect on the power of reading, education, and storytelling. 📖

Other popular ideas for the theme included love, laughter, togetherness, and even a focus on accessibility issues – all showing a desire to make the world a better place.
But in the end, "In the Night, There’s a Book!" came out on top with 46% of the votes, outpacing other strong contenders like "In the Night, There’s Love" and "In the Night, There’s Buzz" (a nod to the importance of bees for our planet 🐝).
Every participating museum will have the chance to design their program around the theme in their own unique way, from showcasing rare books to telling captivating stories hidden in their collections.

Mark your calendars – Museum Night 2025 will be a celebration of books, knowledge, and the stories that shape us taking place on the 17th of May! 📅

🚢 New Exhibition at the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum - DSM 🚢

We’re thrilled to announce that the latest exhibition at the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum in Bremerhaven, Germany opened in late July!

🎉 In collaboration with YES WE CAN, we proudly contributed to this project by producing and installing custom furniture, display cases, lighting solutions, and printed fabric room dividers.

The Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum (DSM) is Germany’s national maritime museum and serves as the Leibniz Institute for Maritime History, combining cutting-edge research with engaging exhibitions.

🚀 **Exciting Minds: Estonian Research Excellence Showcase** 🚀

We are thrilled to announce the opening of the "Estonian Research Excellence Showcase – ERC Grants Across the Years", a celebration of groundbreaking scientific achievements! 🎉

🌍 The exhibition opened just a few days ago in Brussels, at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU, and will be travelling to different countries and cities over the next few years—bringing Estonian scientific excellence to the world!

🎵First museum podcast in Estonia – Muuseumimelu!

Estonia's museum landscape is one of the richest in the world, yet not all the wonderful exhibitions, activities, and initiatives receive the recognition they deserve. This was the realization that struck both Sanders, who have each spent many years working within the museum world. Both are passionate museum visitors and deeply interested in what the future holds for the sector. The idea of starting a podcast to cover the happenings in the museum world developed independently for both, but great ideas always find their way to each other.

So, in early August, they launched a joint museum-themed podcast called Muuseumimelu. The goal of the podcast is to open up the fascinating world of museums—covering everything from new (permanent) exhibitions, developments, programs, and other activities and achievements, to trends and challenges. Colleagues will gain insights into what's happening across the field, while culture enthusiasts will discover exciting trends and get ideas for their next museum visits. Give them a listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, you will find them by searching Muuseumimelu. Their first two episodes are about our projects Lastemuuseum Miiamilla and „Meie Tartu“ exhibition in Tartu linnamuuseum / Tartu City Museum. Good luck to both of you – Sander Jürisson & Sander Olo!

"I love travel books, and one of my favorites is Minu Kreeka by Ester Laansalu. Greece is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing countries with its rich mythological history and culture. The book offers great insights into the Greek people and their way of life."

🥏 Favorite Hobby:
"My favorite way to spend time is playing disc golf. It's quite popular among Estonians, and no wonder—our idol, Kristin Tattar, is a world champion!"

"I recently came across an article about a museum in Marseille, France, that offers nudists a chance to visit and enjoy art in the n**e one evening a month. The interesting part? You still must wear shoes! 😊 We live in a world where everyone should feel as comfortable as possible when enjoying their favorite activities and places. Isn’t that great? "I love castles and have visited Alatskivi Castle multiple times. Besides the beautiful castle itself, you can explore the stables with interactive exhibits—there’s something for everyone, big and small. On the grounds, you can also visit the Eduard Tubin Museum, which showcases the life and work of one of Estonia’s most famous composers."

🌊We are pleased to announce that a new Oceania exhibition, for which we have been selected as the main contractors for Exhibition Fit-out, will open at the Übersee-Museum in March 2025.
The museum in Bremen combines a unique collection of ethnology, trade, and natural history into a unified experience, making it one of a kind in Europe. We’re excited to be teaming up with YES WE CAN to produce the exhibition furniture, display cases, and graphics, all within the stunning design by Casson Mann ! We’re really looking forward to bringing this project to life!

☀️Last week, our team got together to celebrate the end of summer. First, we visited the MOMU Mootorispordi Muuseum located in Turba, where they proudly exhibit almost all different motorsport fields from rally cars to water motorsport. The collection exhibits 252 cars, bikes and boats in the field of racing, and a very wide range of accessories. Thank you Tiiu Niglas for hosting us.

The rest of the day continued with various games. Two teams had the chance to challenge themselves in flower arranging, puzzle games, and in engineering challenges. We are eagerly looking forward to the beginning of autumn! 🍂
