Wilde Guest Apartments is named after a Cultural Endeavour conceived by the owner Liam Allen to honour the Irish writer Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) & the Estonian writer Eduard Vilde (1856–1933).
The bronze work by Tiiu Kirsipuu which depicts Oscar Wilde & Eduard Vilde sitting on a park bench having an imagined conversation is located in the centre of Tartu, the second city of Estonia, coincidentally outside former printing house established by a third namesake, Peter Ernest Vilde in 1648. The building in Tartu now houses an art wine bar Vilde & Vine. In 2004 the government of Estonia on the occasion of joining the European Union gifted a copy of the sculpture to the city of Galway in Ireland.
Today the sculptures are amongst the most photographed sites in both cities. Wilde Guest Apartments are also in Tartu, but not yet in Galway. There is a large monument to Eduard Vilde in front Wilde Guest Apartments Tallinn Old Town.
