The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir hosts a temporary exhibition on photography

Under the title "Influential Visions", the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir is hosting a temporary exhibition on photography in Hall 43 on the upper floor, which opened yesterday and continues until Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Professor Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector, explained that the exhibition includes a group of illustrated works by the Italian artist Giorgia Fiorio, called Paradeigma (Images different from the artifact in one-to-one size), which she donated to the museum, within the framework of the project that began in 2010 with the aim of showing the influence of The projection of light on the artifacts changed, resulting in more than one different image of the same piece, by presenting three unique artifacts from the masterpieces of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

Professor Sabah Abdel Razek, Director General of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, indicated that these pieces include the incomplete head of Queen Nefertiti of brown quartzite, which was found in Tell el-Amarna in 1933 from the excavations of the Egypt Exploration Association and dates back to the era of the New Kingdom, the eighteenth dynasty, the era of King Akhenaten, and the head of An alternative dating back to the Old Kingdom era was found by the American archaeologist George Reisner in the Giza pyramids area, and a brown quartzite queen head dating back to the New Kingdom era was found in 1915, under the foundations of King Merneptah’s palace in Memphis.

She added that the exhibition includes, in addition to the photographs, the three artifacts that were photographed, so that visitors to the exhibition can identify and see the photographed pieces.

She stressed that the aim of the exhibition is to reveal the human perception and insight of a specific shape on a three-dimensional photograph with a flat surface, in addition to contemplating the statue in a different way for each viewer after changing the projection of light on it.
