Marsa Matruh is a resort town on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, known for its lagoons and white-sand beaches. It’s on a large bay, with the resort stretching along the shore. West of the town, Cleopatra’s Beach is surrounded by rocks , creating a natural pool called Cleopatra’s Bath. Near Rommel’s Beach is the Rommel Museum, with memorabilia and maps, in caves that served as the German WWII commander’s headquarters.

Know more about ancient Egypt! " The Im-Duwat"

Generally, Book of the dead or the IM-DUWAT “that which belongs to the second life “was a stereotype –book used to be written and provided to royal family members as well as to the very rich Egyptians. Just few of IM-DUWAT books were discovered in good order and completion. Most of discovered books were found located inside coffins of the Egyptian dead or kept hidden in kilts of stone or wooden statues. The first complete IM-DUWAT seems to go back to the new kingdom however its first chapter was written during the old kingdom specifically during Cheops reign which is about 2500 B.C. The full book of the dead was found as Papyrus scrolls that can fill more than 20 meters long papyruses and fit in 150 A4 pages approximately. The most common chapter from the IM-DUWAT is the chapter of the twelve hours of the night which is partly found or completely carved on walls of tombs as well as found written on papyrus. However, the chapter of the twelve hours of the night was the most repetitive; it was rarely found in complete order and that was due to the high cost for writing it as a full book. . The most popular part of the chapter of the twelve hours of the night according to finds of New kingdom papyruses and mainly the ones of the high-officials is the part of the 11th and the 12th hours which represent the final transformation of Amun-Ra and his rebirth. The second popular parts of that chapter are the 3rd, the 4th, the 5th and the 6th hours which are found in most of carvings of Valley of the Kings tombs. The chapter of the twelve hours of the night is found in complete order in tombs of king Seti I and tomb of king Thutmoses III in the Valley of the Kings.

The 12th hour of the night, written and Painted by Yasser kamel for Museumegypt. After painting it I became more convinced of the cause behind using strokes in making repetitive human figures on papyrus and else!

Know more about ancient Egypt!

Ancient Egyptians used a set of stereotyped and repetitive spells to protect the mummy from danger! The painting is a part of the Papyrus book of Nakhet,1400 B.C approximately. It represents the Royal scribe Nakhet while slaying a beetle, most probably that beetle is from the dermastidae beetles which feed on flesh. Book of the dead of Nakhet has spells against worms, beetles and corruption.
Book of the dead refers to the necessity of getting the deceased body to survive the decomposing and the deterioration factors, therefore, the ancient Egyptians believed that once to keep a copy from book of the dead which includes the essential hymns and spells it can protect their bodies against worms, insects and deterioration.

Know more about ancient Egypt!

The Great Pyramid remains to be the utmost challenge for all global engineering and architectural researches. In most of theories that explain the possible methods of construction for the great pyramid , the w
eight of the stone blocks take the major attention however the number of the stone blocks and their sizes are the main dilemma in comprehending the whole issue. The great Pyramid estimated number of stone blocks are roughly 2.3 million pieces with unequal weight, size and shape. Amazingly those blocks were constructed in interlocking layout with no mortar or reinforcement. Just trying to Imagine the way the architectural plan was like in such scale or quantity is indeed mind boggling. Written by Yasser kamel for Museumegypt.2006

Cruising lake Naser on board of Prince Abbas .Part1
Among my best trips ever, within the Egyptian historical lands, was a trip to the Nubian Desert identified as The Golden Nile. It included all of the fantastic temples that Egypt built from almost three and half thousand years for the use of the ancient Egyptians and the Nubian tribes who were passing our borders .The nations so often called "Nubians " were bordering our southern provinces a lot of them were from north of Sudan or lower Nubia .The massive Egyptian desert between Egypt and Sudan had some famous routs of trade and the Nubians were dealers and suppliers of African goods and specially gold, therefore they had the title Nebu which means in the hieroglyphics the ones of gold. Lower Nubians and ancient Egyptians had always mutual relation in too many aspects including commerce and defense while middle and upper or southern Nubians in our intermediate periods started to be competitors. Generally the history of Nubia describes the Nubians to struggle against the wild nature, the droughts, the no unity and the continuous raiding and sacking between the Nubian tribes. Nubians generally had never created agricultural societies and were mostly gatherers and hunters. The earliest finds from Nubia is from its pre-historic or cave-people around 3000 BC and from some nomadic settlements who had a great interaction with the Egyptian civilization. History !

The pharaoh Pesmatik I ,26th Dynasty , 644 BC could not reunify Egypt without the use of foreign mercenaries mostly brought from Greece as Egyptian regular army deteriorated due to invasions and invaders' policy. Pesmatik had to use 30,000 Greek mercenaries in addition to the remains of the Egyptian indigenous army in order to expel the Nubians and to hold control over the whole country. Egypt could not remain strong so it was invaded and re invaded by the Persians and the Greeks. The policy of Alexander the great and Ptolemaic kings was always to exempt the Egyptian from joining the army until the battle of Raphia in 217 BC and once Ptolemy IV had to recruit the Egyptians for the first time which enabled him to accomplish his victory over the Seleucides , Consequently , the Egyptian recalled the feeling of patriotism back which led to have episodes of revolts against the Greeks!.

Know more about ancient Egypt! "Humor in ancient Egypt"
A wooden toy of dancing pigmies. The Egyptian Museum.

Egyptians are humorous and in fact they were lovers of fun and sarcasm since the beginning of history. The most well known goddess for joy and fun was Hathor who also was goddess of music to whom a lot of temples were dedicated. The second famous god in ancient Egypt was Bes the god of fun , joy and music who is origin was more African as he was represented as a pigmy god holding a harp. Some of the ancient papyri which date back to old kingdom around 2500 B.C describe the desire for the royal family to have African pigmies brought peacefully or else to Egypt where they be employed as clown and jesters. Actually some of those musicians and jesters were local dwarfs who became rich and well off. The Egyptian museum has an interesting collection of toys includes a wooden dancing pigmies toy operates by bulling the cords that are attached to the rotating discs where the pigmies are attached.Written by Yasser Kamel for Museumegypt,Copyright@museumegypt.
