This exquisite limestone relief brings us face-to-face with Henet, the wife of Khety, as portrayed in her husband's tomb during Egypt's Middle Kingdom, around 1980 BCE. This masterpiece, dating to the early 12th Dynasty, captures the elegance and symbolism of ancient Egyptian art.

Henet is depicted gracefully holding an open lotus blossom—a symbol of rebirth and purity—in her left hand, while her right hand delicately carries what seems to be a handkerchief matching her dress. In front of her, a mirror nestled in a basket adds a touch of personal adornment, reflecting her status and beauty.

A closer look at the background reveals faint red lines, both horizontal and vertical, meticulously spaced. These grids served as guides for Egyptian artists, ensuring precise proportions and adherence to the artistic canon that defined their two-dimensional creations.

This vibrant piece of history, cataloged as INV 202, is now proudly housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria, offering a timeless glimpse into the artistry and culture of ancient Egypt.

For the first time ever, an Egyptian-Spanish archaeological team has uncovered incredible treasures in the El Bahnasa area of Minya, dating back to the Ptolemaic period!

Here’s what they found:
✨ 13 golden tongues and nails from ancient mummies
🪦 A treasure trove of amulets and scarabs featuring Isis, Horus, and Thoth
📜 Vibrant ritual texts and artwork of deities, seen for the first time in El Bahnasa

The discovery includes tombs adorned with colorful inscriptions and burial chambers filled with mummies, skeletons, and unique artifacts.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, highlighted the significance of these finds, calling them a major addition to the historical understanding of religious practices during the Ptolemaic era.

Other jaw-dropping details include:
🔹 A scarab amulet perfectly preserved inside a mummy's chest.
🔹 Dozens of ritual amulets, including 29 representing the Djed pillar.
🔹 Burial wells leading to chambers filled with dozens of mummies stacked together—evidence of ancient communal burial practices.

One chamber featured stunning ceiling art of the sky goddess Nut, surrounded by stars and sacred boats carrying gods like Ra and Atum. Even more fascinating, thin layers of gold were found on the faces of mummies and statues of Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys, showcasing intricate burial rituals.

The mission’s leaders, including Dr. Hassan Amer and Dr. Esther Pons Mellado, noted that this discovery opens new doors for understanding El Bahnasa’s history. In previous seasons, the team also uncovered tombs from other ancient periods, a Roman basilica church, and the Osirion Temple.

😯 New Discoveries at Taposiris Magna Temple: Shedding Light on Late Ptolemaic History 🌍✨

A recent excavation by the Egyptian-Dominican archaeological mission at Taposiris Magna, led by Dr. Kathleen Martinez, has uncovered groundbreaking artifacts and foundation deposits beneath the southern wall of the temple, west of Alexandria. These findings provide fresh insights into the late Ptolemaic era.🏺✨

𝐀𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞:

📌A white marble statuette possibly represents a royal woman, thought by some to be Queen Cleopatra VII, though other experts believe it may depict another princess.👑

The diaries of the ancients and the sacred history that took them ages to prove its splendor are things offered in sites from the museums, and temples, to valleys, and tombs among which is the Tomb of Maia.🏺

Nestled in the iconic Bubasteion cemetery in Saqqara, the Tomb of Maia unveils the touching story of Maia, the devoted wet nurse of the boy king, Tutankhamun. Located just 35 km from Cairo, this extraordinary site offers a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs. Discovered in 1996 by French archaeologist Alain Zivie, Maia’s tomb is adorned with beautifully preserved reliefs that illustrate her unique relationship with young Tutankhamun. One notable scene depicts Maia cradling the young pharaoh, a tender moment frozen in stone that speaks volumes about their bond.

After years of careful excavation, the tomb was opened to the public in 2015, inviting visitors from all over the world to walk in the footsteps of the royal court. The intricate carvings, depictions of offerings, and images of Maia alongside Osiris reveal the cultural richness of the New Kingdom era.
