MAKAN Interiors

MAKAN Interiors Contemporary Egyptian Environments Makan is an architectural and interior design company.

Was previously based in Cairo's art deco district of Zamalek, now in Maadi. The company has support staff and engineers who work under the leadership and direction of architect and CEO Victor Sobki. Since its inception in 1994, the company has consciously chosen to work with clients who seek to break the prevailing mold of European imitation and develop a unique identity and expression of lifestyl

e consistent with the history and cultural trends of Egypt. In 2002 the company launched a line of contemporary Egyptian furniture and accessories. Architectural and Interior Design Projects
Our projects reflect a wide range of interests and serve to constantly refresh our creativity. They remind us that the environments where people live and work and play are key to the experience of place. Cairo is a city blessed with a wealth of artistic and cultural influences--Oriental and Occidental -- that have indelibly left their mark on our collective consciousness. Our challenge is to interpret, refine, invent and play with our architectural and design heritage in a contemporary spirit. The design process always evolves from the perspective of the spectator and participant. For us, the soul of our work derives from that interplay with the human experience. Art Direction and Set Design
Our work in this field enriches our understanding of the phenomenon of inspiration as it relates to design. The set creates and defines the atmosphere for the entire creative team and as it evolves, so does the performance. Directors and advertising production companies choose to work with us because we've developed a full-service process that delivers uniqueness in a timely, cost-effective way. The music videos, commercials, films and television programs we have worked on have wide distribution in international markets.

EGYPTIAN ALABASTER

Egyptian alabaster is a type of translucent calcium carbonate mineral that forms in sedimentary deposits. It is primarily found in the region around Luxor, Egypt, which was historically known as Thebes. The ancient quarries in this area yielded the prized alabaster stone that was used by civilizations across millennia.

Egyptian alabaster stone has a range of applications across different artistic and architectural contexts:

Alabaster was used to create architectural details such as columns, reliefs, and panels in ancient structures. Its ability to diffuse light added a sense of ambiance to interior spaces.

Alabaster’s translucent quality made it a desirable material for lamps and lanterns, as it created a soft and warm illumination when light passed through it.

Egyptian alabaster stone is renowned for its unique visual properties. It displays a remarkable translucency, allowing light to pass through the stone to varying degrees. This property creates a soft, diffused glow when the stone is illuminated from behind, lending an ethereal and enchanting quality to the material. The stone’s color palette ranges from creamy whites to pale yellows and soft pinks, with subtle variations that add to its charm. Its fine texture allows for intricate carving and detailing, making it a favorite among sculptors and artisans.
