Are you dreaming about diving the famous "Blue Hole" and the "Canyon in Dahab again?
Even if you are a beginner or want to take a diving course, Dahab is a fantastic place to SCUBA Dive, with many different dive sites. You won't be crowded, and you'll find our diving team and guides friendly and fun. Come and join us.

But how to get to Dahab? The closest airport to Dahab is Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH), which services many charter and scheduled flights from most of Europe.
Good news for the British Divers out there - British Airways flights have now returned to Sharm El Sheikh. Since the 4th of November 2023, British Airways now has four scheduled flights for the winter from London Gatwick to Sharm el Sheikh on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

At the time of writing, the BA website (www.britishairways.com) is showing the lowest return prices for 7 days LGW - SSH starting at :
NOV 2023 - £221 DEC 2023 - £215 JAN 2024 -£213 FEB 2024 - £219 MAR 2024 - £223
BA no longer includes checked baggage in the prices shown, but the additional fees of £30 - 35 each way per 23kg bag are generally lower than most budget airlines. The cabin bag allowance is also more generous with a small suitcase, duffel bag, or holdall, which can weigh up to 23kg as long as you can lift it into the overhead locker. (Max dimensions 56 x 45 x 25 cm).You can also take a small handbag (40 x 30 x 15cm), which can be placed under your seat.

The good news for divers is that sports equipment, as long as it can fit in your cabin package or checked baggage, can be carried at no extra charge. Extra bags can be booked upon request.

We nearly missed it; as a matter of fact, we missed the exact date, but thank god, not the year.
When we started SD BP in 2003, SD Dahab in the Dahab Hilton Resort had been operating already since 2000. In these 3 years, the Center grew fast, and we brought the first Dive boat, Ghazala VI, to Dahab. Soon after, we became the first CDC in Sinai and the first TEK Center in Dahab. At the same time, Downtown Dahab "Masbat" developed more and more, and several Dive Centers settled there.
The reason was the growing number of international travellers, young people ( Backpackers ), discovering Dahab as one of the new hip places one has to visit while travelling the world. And besides Wind -and Kite surfing, learning to dive was the thing to do. These were different from the classic Tourists one would find in the Hilton. So we decided, or as a matter of fact, It was Tom, Manager of the Hilton Center, who had the idea to open a small Center to attract this clientele.
We opened the first Center in the spring of 2003 in the Alaska Camp, where we stayed for a few years, and later on, we moved to the location where we are still today. Once established there, we rebuilt the Center by adding a large Terrasse, with a cosy sitting area, classroom and a field station for RSEC ( Red Sea Environmental Centre ), a marine Biology and environmental organisation with their own permanent Marine Biologist. Until 2020 spring, when the coronavirus outbreak stopped operation, our main activity was hosting RSEC clients, mainly marine biology students from Universities in Germany. Unfortunately, with corona, this ended and did not recover until now.
For more than 10 years, Thorsten has been the Center manager and, together with Eid is running the place. Eid has been with us already since 2000, first in the Hilton and since 2015 with Backpackers.

PLEASE REPORT YOUR OBSERVATIONS

With your help, we want to investigate the disappearance of the sea urchin Diadema setosum and document its presence or absence in the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Every observation of live and dead diadem sea urchins helps us to learn more about the current mass mortality.

Even if no sea urchins are seen on the dive, this is important information to report. Only together can we manage to find and save the last occurrences of the black, long-spined diadem sea urchins.

All recreational divers are encouraged to report their observations with the free, multilingual app for Android and IOS smartphones and tablets.

Family holidays in Dahab 🌞🌴

20 years ago, Father Alnasser was diving with us. This summer, he came back with his lovely family to show them the beautiful underwater world of Dahab and give them the chance to become passionate divers. This cute cuttlefish belongs to the family of cephalopods, which are described as the most intelligent invertebrates.
Together with squids, the cuttlefish belongs to the ten-armed cephalopods, and have compared to other family members e.g octopuses two more specialized tentacles.
When approached it may instantly flash waves of colour down the body and change skin texture as camouflage and for protection.

Happy Full Moon 🌝

We all know about the moon's influence on the daily tidal movements of our oceans.
But the impact of the moon does not stop with this.
One of the most fascinating examples of how the moon influences life underwater is by controlling mass spawning events. Mass spawning events are described when all of the organisms of a population release their eggs and s***m into the water simultaneously.
Such events are happing worldwide. Vast aggregations of e.g. the same fish species are gathering at the same spot for reproduction, sometimes also referred to as the “wedding” of Parrotfish, Snappers, and other organisms which are triggered by the moon cycle.
Also, many corals are participating in such mass spawn events. When night diving, you might be lucky to observe tons of tiny bubbles being released from the corals and turning the water into a colourful firework.
