Good evening my dear friends ..
Striped eel cat fish ( Plotosus lineatus ) .. Reach up to 32 cm. at depth 1 - 30 m .. Most of world`s 2000 Cat Fish species occur in fresh water . Only two families contain marine species . It is found in inshore habitats including estuaries and tide pools . Juveniles occur in dense schools over sand and sea grass , adults live solitarily and hide by day . At night they prey on crustaceans , molluscs and fish ..
One should avoid handling these Cat Fish , as their stout pectoral and dorsal fin spines are highly venomous and have strong barbs on their edges that make removal from a wound difficult ..
Stings are extremely painful and can be fatal . Heat ( water or air from hair dryer , as hot as the stung person can tolerate ) has to be applied to the wound as soon as possible to destroy the toxic proteins .. Moray garden dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Box fish ( Ostracion cubicus ) .. Reach up to 45 cm. at depth 1 - 45 m. Large adults are variable in color , ranging from ochre to purplish brown , the round spots on the carapace of the smaller female phase being faint or absent , the fins have small black spots , the head is adorned with a bump anteriorly on the snout . Females are yellow and have many regularly rounded , black-rimmed white spots on the carapace . Small juveniles are cube-shaped becoming more elongate with age . Their coloration is yellow with round black spots nearly as large as the pupil . The caudal fin increases in size with age and the caudal peduncle becomes long and thick . A solitary species , always seeking shelter under overhangs in the reef .. The Canyon dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Arabian angel fish ( Pomacanthus maculosus ) .. Reach up to 50 cm. at depth 2 - 60 m. The species is often seen solitary and inhabits fringing reefs with rich coral growth , but also muddy areas . It was observed leaving the coral reef to feed in nearby beds of sea grass as well . Due to its distribution from the northern tip of Aqaba Gulf to the western tip of the Arabian Gulf this species deserves its popular name Arabian Angel Fish . Moray garden dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends .. I wish you all a happy new year ..
The remoras sometimes called suckerfish are a family ( Echeneidae ) of ray-finned fish in the order Perciformes . They grow to 7–75 cm long . Their distinctive first dorsal fins take the form of a modified oval, sucker-like organ with slat-like structures that open and close to create suction and take a firm hold against the skin of larger marine animals . The disk is made up of stout , flexible membranes that can be raised and lowered to generate suction . By sliding backward , the remora can increase the suction , or it can release itself by swimming forward . Remoras sometimes attach to small boats , and have been observed attaching to divers as well . They swim well on their own , with a sinuous , or curved , motion . Remora front dorsal fins have evolved to enable them to adhere by suction to smooth surfaces and they spend their lives clinging to a host animal such as a whale , turtle , shark or ray . It is probably a mutualistic arrangement as the remora can move around on the host , removing ectoparasites and loose flakes of skin , while benefiting from the protection provided by the host and the constant flow of water across its gills . Although it was initially believed that remoras fed off particulate matter from the host's meals , this has been shown to be false , in reality , their diets are composed primarily of host f***s . Remoras are tropical open-ocean dwellers , but are occasionally found in temperate or coastal waters if they have attached to large fish that have wandered into these areas . In the mid-Atlantic Ocean , spawning usually takes place in June and July , in the Mediterranean Sea , it occurs in August and September . The sucking disc begins to show when the young fish are about 1 cm long . When the remora reaches about 3 cm , the disc is fully formed and the remora can then attach to other animals . The remora's lower jaw projects beyond the upper , and the animal lacks a swim bladder . The relationship between a remora and its host is most often taken to be one of commensalism , specifically phoresy .. Light house dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Potato grouper ( Epinephelus tukula ) .. Reach up to 200 cm. at depth 3—80 meters . The potato grouper is one of the largest bass in the world that lives in the coral reef . It is easily identified by its light-colored body with black spots . It derives its name from its spots, which resemble the eyes of a potato . It aggressively defends its territory against other fish . Considered to be exceedingly territorial and very aggressive towards intruders . Feeds on reef fishes , skates , crabs , and spiny lobsters .. The islands dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Snowflake moray ( Echidna nebulosa ) .. Reach up to 60 cm. at depth 1—40 m. Found singly on inshore protected reef flats , hiding in dead coral . They feed on fish and invertebrates . Morays open and close their mouths to move water through their gills for respiration . This behavior can often be seen as a threat especially towards divers , in fact this is far from the truth , they are very shy creatures and will only attack if provoked . The Islands dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Hawksbill sea turtle ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) .. They are primarily found in tropical coral reefs . They are usually seen resting in caves and ledges in and around these reefs throughout the day . As a highly migratory species , they inhabit a wide range of habitats , from the open ocean to lagoons and even mangrove swamps in estuaries . While the hawksbill sea turtles mainly feed on sponges found on coral reefs , they also feed on crustaceans , algae and fish . They are prey to large fish , sharks , and humans . The hawksbill sea turtles are unfortunately endangered mainly due to human impact . These sea turtles mainly stay close to shorelines as this is where sponge-bearing coral reefs can be found , as well as beaches that provide nesting sites . Not much is known about the life history of hawksbills . Their life history can be divided into three phases , namely the Pelagic phase , from hatching to about 20 cm , the Benthic phase , when the immature turtles recruit to foraging areas , and the Reproductive phase , when they reach sexual maturity . The Pelagic phase possibly lasts until the turtles reach around 20 cm in length in 1–3 years , reaching sexual maturity at around 40 cm (2–4 years) . Hawksbills show a degree of fidelity after recruiting to the Benthic phase , however movement to other similar habitats is possible . Adult hawksbill sea turtles typically grow to 1 m in length , weighing around 80 kg on average . The heaviest hawksbill ever captured weighed 127 kg . The blue hole dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Sergeant major ( Abudefduf vaigensis ) .. Adults can grow up to 23 cm. at maximum length . Normally , they would grow up to 15 cm. The largest recorded specimen weighed had a weight of up to 200 gr. This fish is white with a yellow top . It has 5 vertical stripes which are black . A faint sixth stripe might be present on the caudal peduncle . Adult males have a more bluish coloration and its stripes are less visible . There is a dark spot around its pectoral fin . This fish feed upon the larvae of invertebrates , zooplankton , smaller fish , crustaceans , and various species of algae . Individuals of this species form aggregations of about several hundreds of individuals . Sometimes , they get cleaned of parasites by fish species such as gobies in the genus . Sergeant majors also clean green sea turtles .. The blue hole dive site , Dahab ..

Good evening my dear friends ..
Devil scorpion fish ( Scorpaenopsis diabola ) .. Reach up to 22 cm. At depth 5 - 70 m. A relatively uncommon inhabitant of rubble or weedy coralline-rock bottoms , reef flats , lagoons and seaward reefs . This exceedingly ugly creature has a colorful surprise for those who disturb it . It flashes the underside of its pectoral fins that are brilliantly colored in yellow , orange and black . Presumably this is an effective warning .. Moray garden dive site ..

Good evening my dear friends.. Dolphin (disambiguation) .. Dolphins are a widely distributed and diverse group of aquatic mammals . They have streamlined bodies and two limbs that are modified into flippers . Though not quite as flexible as seals , some dolphins can travel at 55.5 km/h . Dolphins use their conical shaped teeth to capture fast moving prey. They have well-developed hearing which is adapted for both air and water and is so well developed that some can survive even if they are blind . Some species are well adapted for diving to great depths. They have a layer of fat, or blubber, under the skin to keep warm in the cold water . Dolphins feed largely on fish and squid , but a few , like the killer whale, feed on large mammals , like seals. Male dolphins typically mate with multiple females every year , but females only mate every two to three years . Calves are typically born in the spring and summer months and females bear all the responsibility for raising them. Mothers of some species fast and nurse their young for a relatively long period of time . Dolphins produce a variety of vocalizations , usually in the form of clicks and whistles . Good evening my dear friends ..
Graeffe's sea cucumber ( Pearsonothuria graeffei ) .. It`s a roughly cylindrical , thin-walled sea cucumber that grows to about 30 cm. Its mouth , at one end , is surrounded by a ring of up to 24 leaf-like , paddle-shaped tentacles with black stalks which are black on the upper side and white beneath . The a**s is at the other end of the body and there are several rows of tube feet along the underside . The color of the adults is pale brown and white , with black speckles and small thorn-like protuberances . By contrast , the juveniles are brightly colored , being white and blue or black , with a few large , yellow , thorn-like projections . This coloration makes them closely resemble the sea slug , the bright colors of which warn predators of its toxicity . It is found on the seabed and on coral reefs at depths down to about 25 m. It`s a scavenger and roams around on the seabed sifting through the sediment with its feeding tentacles . Any organic matter it finds is passed to its mouth by the tentacles . Its daily activities start within a few minutes of dawn and continue until half an hour after sunset after which time it adopts an inactive stance with its rear end raised and its tentacles retracted into its mouth . It then remains immobile during the night .. Moray garden dive site ..
