📍Statue of Mentuhotep II, Mortuary Temple of Mentuhotep II at Deir el-Bahari.‼🕍

This statue of King Mentuhotep II is made out of painted sandstone, represents a stepping-stone in the renaissance of Egyptian art at the beginning of the Middle Kingdom. King Mentuhotep II is shown here seated, wearing the red Deshret crown of Lower Egypt, a knee-length white Heb Sed, or jubilee robe, and a ceremonial beard.

King Mentuhotep II founded the Middle Kingdom of Egypt (ca. 2050-1710 BC) when he reunited the country after many years of disorder and hostility after King Narmer. The king is portrayed with black skin and arms crossed on his chest to identify him with Osiris.

The artist modeled the statue showing a well-built body and massive legs and feet. This shape depicts the ruler in a powerful form and shows no sign of any physical deformity.

The statue was found by chance in 1900 by Howard Carter as he rode through the forecourt of Mentuhotep’s mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari, when his horse tripped on something.

Upon investigation, this turned out to be a stone slab covering a shaft. Carter excavated it, and discovered a small chamber containing the statue intricately wrapped in linen, along with other artifacts.

📍Seated Statue of Sennefer and his Wife Senetnay, Egyptian Museum📍🕍

Sennefer was one of the prominent noblemen in the New Kingdom who served as the mayor of Thebes and responsible for the tributes in grain paid to the Temple of Amun in the reign of Amenhotep II.

Sennefer's wife was called Sentnay and occupied the post of the royal wet nurse. This statuary group depicts Sennefer and his wife Sentnay sitting on a footstool throne with their arms around each others body and their little daughter between them.

Sennefer is depicted wearing a curly wig his ears emerging and a kilt with some hieroglyphic inscriptions indicating a customary formula of prayer from the ka of the couple in addition to the cartouche of Amenhotep II.

The statue is distinguished by the rolls of fat on his chest that were used as a sign for prosperity and the insignia of the "gold of the reward" around his neck that he got as a reward from the king for his services. The daughter between the couple is called Mutnofret while her sister Nefertari is placed on the left side of the seat.

- Mummification is one of the most important ancient Egyptian secrets because we do not yet know how they used to do this process.❤😍

- Mummification was mainly done to wealthy people as poorer people could not afford the process. 👑

- The chief embalmer was a priest wearing a mask of Anubis. Anubis was the jackal headed god of the dead. He was closely associated with mummification and embalming, hence priests wore a mask of Anubis.

📌This is the step-by-step process of how mummification took place:

1- Insert a hook through a hole near the nose and pull out part of the brain.

2- Make a cut on the left side of the body near the tummy.

3- Remove all internal organs.

4- Let the internal organs dry.

5- Place the lungs, intestines, stomach and liver inside canopic jars.

6- Place the heart back inside the body.

7- Rinse inside of body with wine and spices.

8- Cover the co**se with natron (salt) for 70 days.

9- After 40 days stuff the body with linen or sand to give it a more human shape.

10- After the 70 days wrap the body from head to toe in bandages.

11- Place in a sarcophagus (a type of box like a coffin).
