🇪🇬✨ A colossal statue of Ramesses II at Memphis 🇪🇬 ✨
Do you know the story of how a shattered statue became the most well-known in Egyptian history? 🇪🇬✨

In Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom (circa 2686 BC–circa 2181 BC), a grand statue of Ramesses II was built. Unfortunately, this statue was discovered with damage to its foot and base.

The statue has been proposed to various foreign institutions, including the British Museum, but all of them declined due to the high shipping costs involved, and transporting the statue intact seems high, which is fortunate as it has remained in Egypt.

This statue was originally one of a pair, with the second statue also found by Caviglia in 1820. In the 1950s, it was restored to its full height.
