Ramses Travel organized a wonderful trip to Egypt! From riding camels at the pyramids, to a fabulous Nile cruise, it was all wonderful! Nader is a wealth of knowledge and so incredibly friendly and welcoming. They had scheduled a Red Sea scuba liveaboard for our second week, which was unfortunately interrupted by a medical issue, but Nader helped immensely by coordinating a last minute stay at beautiful resort and drivers for me as I was attending to my friend who was in the hospital. At the end of our trip he even accompanied us to the airport to help us navigate the system with one person in a wheelchair.

Even with the unexpected medical issues, overall it was an unparalleled experience and I hope to travel with Ramses Travel and Nader again in the future.

Gebel el Silsila Gebel el-Silsila or Gebel Silsileh (Arabic: جبل السلسلة – Jabal al-Silsila or Ǧabal as-Silsila – “Chain of Mountains” or “Series of Mountains”; Egyptian: ẖny, Khenyt, Kheny or Khenu – “The Place of Rowing”; German: Dschabal as-Silsila – “Ruderort”, or “Ort des Ruderns” – “Place of Rowing”; Italian: Gebel Silsila – “Monte della Catena” – “Upstream Mountain Chain”) was an important site during ancient Egypt as a vital sandstone quarry of the region. It provided the raw materials required to build the massive sandstone structures that spread all over Upper Egypt. Kheny (or sometimes Khenu), which means “The Place of Rowing”, was a primary quarry site on both sides of the Nile from the 18th Dynasty to the Greco-Roman times. Silsila is famous for its New Kingdom stelai and cenotaphs.

Dendera Light 💡💡

The Dendera light is a motif in the Hathor temple at Dendera in Egypt. It depicts the Egyptian creation myth, and the text surrounding the pieces confirm this. The motif became famous when the History Channel claimed it depicts an ancient light bulb, something that the text around the motif disproves. The temple contains several reliefs depicting Harsomtus, in the form of a snake, emerging from a lotus flower which is usually attached to the bow of a barge. The so-called dendera light is a variation of this motif, showing Harsomtus in an oval container called hn, which might represent the womb of Nut.

Gebel el-Silsila or Jabal Silsila "Mountain Range. Egyptian: ẖny, Khenyt, Kheny or Khenu – "The Place of Rowing" lies 65 km north of Aswan in Upper Egypt, where the cliffs on both sides approach the narrowest point along the entire length of the Nile. The location is between Edfu in the north towards Lower Egypt and Kom Ombo in the south towards Upper Egypt. The name Kheny (or sometimes Khenu) means "The Rowing Place". Sandstone quarry During the 18th dynasty, the ancient Egyptians switched from limestone to sandstone. At this time the quarries at Gebelein did not yield as much limestone as before. Gebel el-Silsila became a source of sandstone. The Shrines, chapels and temples The site yielded numerous quarries on both the west and east sides of the Nile. The site contains many shrines that were erected by officials who assisted in the quarrying of the stone. Almost all of ancient Egypt's great temples got their sandstone from here, such as Karnak, Luxor, Ramesses III's Medinet Habu, Kom Ombo and the Ramesseum
