The dugong, often dubbed the "sea cow," captivates with its herbivorous marine lifestyle. Remarkably, these gentle giants are known for forming intricate social bonds, engaging in playful behaviors, and using their sensitive upper lips to forage on seagrass. Dugongs embody a fascinating blend of grace and ecological significance in the underwater world.

Making good friends / buddy teams for lifetime 👐🐬💙
Two juvenile Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin males are petting each other with their pectoral fins (flippers).
The 5 years old Didi is swimming above his friend. Didi is known to be very friendly towards divers and swimmers. 🙏🌊🐬💦

To get to know the dolphin’s personality, you need to spend a lot of time with them. 🌊🐬💦
Every individual is different like we humans. Some are shyer and will never approach swimmers or divers, other ones are more curious like the 17 years old male called “Sefa” who still needs to find his “best buddy” for lifetime.
Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin males have strong associations with other males (alliances) whereas females associate with their calves and / or other females. 🐬💙🐬

Stingray, any of a number of flat-bodied rays noted for the long, sharp spines on their tails. They are sometimes placed in a single family, Dasyatidae, but often separated into two families, Dasyatidae and Urolophidae. Stingrays are disk-shaped and have flexible, tapering tails armed, in most species, with one or more saw-edged, venomous spines.

10-14 feet long and weighing up to 1,400 pounds, the 🦈tiger shark🦈 is one of the sea’s large and mighty creatures. The name refers to the dark stripes on their sides and backs, which is one way they can be distinguished from other shark species. However, the stripes typically fade as the animal gets older. These large, slow-moving sharks live all over the world in sub-tropical waters. They are omnivores that have incredible senses—even detecting electricity—making them avid scavengers.
Females develop embryos internally, which then hatch and incubate inside the mother before being born live. Females can give birth to up to 80 pups at a time.

Unfortunately, 🦈tiger sharks are regularly hunted—mainly for their fins, but also for their liver oil. Since they have a low reproduction rate, overfishing is a major threat to tiger shark populations. Juveniles are often caught unintentionally as bycatch, which is detrimental to the next generation. The decreasing population of tiger sharks has led the IUCN to list the species as near threatened.

A male sea turtle will climb onto a female's back while she is swimming horizontally in the water. On their front flippers, males have long claws, which they use to hook on to the leading edge of the female's shell — these claws are quite sharp and will often cut into the female's soft flesh near her shell.

A sea turtle cannot retract its head under its shell as a land turtle can.

Sea turtles have large upper eyelids that protect their eyes.

Sea turtles do not have an external ear opening.

Like other turtles, sea turtles lack teeth. Jaw shape varies among species. Each species has a jaw shape adapted for its diet.

Do you know that the leaf fish is a member of the Scorpaenidae family, meaning they are closely related to stonefish, lionfish, and other scorpionfish? Much like other Scorpaenidae, leaf scorpionfish has venomous spines, however, their venom is considerably weaker than other scorpionfish – with stings often being compared to stinging nettles or a mild insect sting.

The Polychaeta, also known as the bristle worms or polychaetes, are a paraphyletic class of annelid worms, generally marine. Each body segment has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia that bear many bristles, called chaetae, which are made of chitin. More than 10,000 species are described in this class. Common representatives include the lugworm (Arenicola marina) and the sandworm or clam worm Alitta.

There are at least 52 different known species of sea snakes through out the world, but by far the most common species which we see while diving around Bunaken, Lembeh, Lembongan and South Lombok is the banded sea snake.

Since a snake's tongue can fulfill its olfactory function more easily under water, its action is short compared to that of terrestrial snake species. Only the forked tips protrude from the mouth through a divided notch in the middle of the rostral scale. The nostrils have valves consisting of a specialized spongy tissue to exclude water, and the windpipe can be drawn up to where the short nasal passage opens into the roof of the mouth. This is an important adaptation for an animal that must surface to breathe but may have its head partially submerged when doing so. The lung has become very large and extends almost the entire length of the body, although the rear portion is thought to have developed to aid buoyancy rather than to exchange gases. The extended lung possibly also serves to store air for dives.
