It is January. I will be giving my staff their annual salary increase although it won't come anywhere near what they will need to deal with the inflation and the rise in the costs of living. The feed for the animals has risen in the past year to being double the costs, and if we want to keep them healthy we can't ignore this.
The entry fee for the farm has been LE 150 per person with children under 5 for free for ages and as much as I hate increasing the cost, especially since the cost of transport to come here has increased so much, I have to raise it to LE 200 per person. This INCLUDES the half hour horseback ride, the donkey cart ride, and tea, Nescafé, and water and use of the barbecues if visitors want them.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own food, whether prepared or for grilling and the use of the grills and charcoal is free. If people want to order a lunch from us it is a full meal with chicken, rice or pasta, cooked vegetables (Mariam makes an amazing vegan molokheya!) salad, and fruit. Visitors are welcome to bring their own beverages and snacks since everything we offer is freshly prepared from the local produce of the area. Other than the meat dish, everything is either vegetarian or often vegan.
Al Sorat is a family farm where we want people to feel at home to engage with our animals and the nature in our gardens. We also host activities from Nawaya, and other groups, offer school programs, birthday parties, space for group or business meeting and activities, and a chance to play with photography or research.
We have well-trained, vaccinated, friendly dogs at the farm who are delighted with the arrival of visitors, providing a dog fix for people who can't have dogs in their homes. A rent-a-dog service if you will. In addition, with over 40 years of experience in living with a pack of about a dozen dogs from a variety of backgrounds, I am happy to discuss the pros and cons that arise in the contemplation of finding a family dog. We are NOT a rescue, nor do we breed dogs, but the farm is a great chance to see what interactions with dogs are like or to learn to be more comfortable around animals. I have had many visitors who arrange to come because their children love animals and they want to learn how to relax around them. We offer a free gentle therapy.
We can send more detailed information and location on WhatsAppp. Prior reservations are necessary if food is involved.
