Yalla Jabaleya and Sinai Skywalker welcome you to El Karm Ecolodge in Sinai for an unforgettable stargazing experience. With no electricity to disturb the serene setting, guests can join star-gazing sessions led by Sinai Skywalker Mahmoud, using Yalla Jabaleya's premium Maede 8" telescope. During the day, explore ancient Nabatean ruins or embark on a scenic hike through the lush, green Gharba Wadi.
In most of Egypt winter follows summer directly, only in South Sinai's mountains a proper autumn can be felt....
We've been refreshing our website with a new focus on our programmes in Sinai and Alamein while encouraging our guests to spend some time in Cairo, after all, we're promoting culture as well as adventure!

ST. CATHERINE MONASTERY IS BEING PREPPED FOR MEGA-RESTORATION
St. Catherine Monastery, a long-time UNESCO World Heritage List member, is a humble vanguard of Egyptโs snowiest mountains - and as one of the oldest Christian monasteries with the oldest continually operating library in the world, itโs no big revelation that it might be in need of some pampering. Fortunately, the western part of the monastery - whose library houses over 4,500 manuscripts - is finally being prepared for restoration.
The mega-restoration will include smaller churches within the monastery and the outside area. Electric poles will be removed from the surrounding valley area, and replaced with an appropriate lighting system and a security gate. The monastery garden is also being prepped for new additions, which include a honey apiary and olive press that will complement the rare tree species within the garden.
The development will also see a provision of golf carts to transport visitors to and from the area, and the installation of an automatic extinguishing and fire system.

As tourism in Egypt is still on hold, thanks to Corona, let's take another digital hike.
Join us up Abbas Pasha mountain, formerly called Gebel Tiinya. Its a special summit, as it has the ruins of a never finished palace construction of the infamous Viceroy of Egypt who sought for solitude and help for health problems. But he got murdered in 1854, only one year after he started the construction of the road to his future palace and to the summit of Mt. Moses, and with that the site was immediately abandoned.
For fit hikers it could be done in one day from and to St. Katherine town, but it's sooo much nicer as a 2 day excursion, with an overnight in one of the lovely orchard gardens in Wadi Zawatin....
Life goes on and we count our blessings.

Mohamed Odaโs Yalla Jabaleya Herbal Garden got a new (second!) Arisha!!! Right in the middle of beautiful Wadi Itlah, it doesnโt provide just shade but wonderful vistas up and down Wadi Itlah with its fabulous gardens and mountains.
Chapeau and thanks to the initial idea and hard work of Mohamed, the amazing craftsmanship of his father, Oda, and the support of Gordon Wilkinson of Wilderness Ventures Egypt for this real gem in the wilderness.

After climbing Jabal Katrine by a new route with Salem, we got this stunning view of Mt Sinai.
We had a VIP visitor last week, Fergal the Shark :D
He his helping Sarah Woodford to raise money for her charity climb of Kilimanjaro and we invited him to experience Yalla Jabaleya's hospitality. He first spent 2 days in YJ's beautiful headquarters in Wadi Rasees/St. Katherine to get used to the high altitude (for someone living at or below sea level that's quite a task!), relaxing in the garden (joined by a fellow animal, Rasmo the Dog (who has NO inclinations to climb any mountainreally, lazy as he is..) and then he went out to a tough training hike with our Salem (Sarah was allowed to join too, as she will be his 'sherpa' also on the Kilimajaro hike..... ).
Fergal is normally staying with Lisa from Wild Earth Expeditions in Sharm el Sheikh, but he asked to be brought over more often. So please take note, Lisa Sibling! :D
