5 Things To Do Near Aguilas
(Within half an hour's drive)

When anyone books a stay at my apartment in Aguilas, they are offered the use of my car.

I know that not everyone likes to do a lot of driving while they’re on holiday, but, for those who don’t mind a few short trips, there’s plenty to explore less than 30 minutes away.

⛱️ Visit one of the 35 surrounding beaches: The coastline around Aguilas offers many picturesque beaches, crystal-clear waters, and serene surroundings, ideal for both relaxation and water activities. I recommend Calarreone and Calabardina!

🏞️ Explore Cueva de las Palomas: Discover this fascinating cave system, showcasing unique geological formations and a glimpse into the area's natural history.

🌅 Stroll in Marina de Cope: Walk along this beautiful, unspoiled coastal area in the Cope Nature Reserve, known for its stunning landscapes and wildlife.

🏰 Tour the Lorca Castle: This castle is a great example of the region’s medieval history, and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

🏞️ Drive down to the Isle de Fraille: This scenic island, protected as a Natural Reserve, is popular with divers and snorkellers. You can reach nearby beaches by car, but I prefer a morning hike down to Amarillo Beach straight from the apartment.

For those who’d like to venture a little further - head into Andalucía to visit Mojacar, one of my favourite Spanish white villages in the hills.

Now the heat of the hot summer months has passed, why not consider a cooler relaxing trip in September/October this year, or May/June next year?

Aguilas is an all-year destination, with beautiful nearby coastline and towns, great restaurants, and plenty of Spanish culture. Stay tuned for a rundown of my favourite things to do nearby coming soon!

Flights are available into Murcia airport May-October and Alicante November-April.

Anyone who’s been to Aguilas will know how peaceful, pretty, and authentically Spanish the town is. The endless beaches, traditional restaurants, and charming town centre keep people coming back year after year.

Here are 5 of my top recommendations for first-time visitors:

🏰 Explore the Castillo de San Juan: Visit the historic castle that overlooks (85m high) Aguilas town for panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, and to learn more about the area’s history.

⛱️ Relax at Playa de las Delicias: Spend a day at this beautiful beach (one of many along the area’s 10km coastline), known for its golden sands and clear waters, perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

🚂 Visit the Railway Museum: Discover Aguilas' railway heritage at this museum, showcasing old locomotives and train artefacts, highlighting the town's role in the development of Spanish railways. Stop off at the steam train monument as you walk along the promenade, too!

Bonus: Head to the El Hornillo Pier and Tunnel just outside Aguilas to see an important landmark in Spanish rail history (plus some unique picturesque views!).

⛲ Stroll Around Plaza de España: Get straight to the heart of Aguilas by visiting Plaza de España, surrounded by shops, bars, and cafes, ideal for enjoying some tapas and people-watching.

🐟 Dive into the Mediterranean: There are plenty of water sports opportunities off the coast of Aguilas. The clear waters make it perfect for beginner and experienced scuba divers alike.

Some exciting new developments in Aguilas that I’m looking forward to enjoying this summer:

🏊 The pool outside the apartment has been retiled and refilled, and is now looking very inviting, especially in the current 30 degree temperatures!

🎾 A brand new tennis centre has opened nearby, perfect for sporty guests (or anyone who might want to burn off some tortilla or sangria!).
