1.City!
Malaga is not a megapolis, but it is Spain’s 6th largest city with all its pluses and minuses.
For me it was important to be in or near a proper city!
2. Language!
The official language is Castellano, which I already had some knowledge of, and I was not prepared to learn yet another dialect or whole new language!
3. People!
Spanish people are friendliest in Malaga! They are used to expats and are very open and welcoming! Of course you need to do your part as well! Try learning the language and
respect the locals!
4. Opportunities!
With all the big companies coming to Malaga, it is becoming the “Silicon Valley of Spain” which opens a lot of opportunities, and not only for the IT aces!
5. Climate!
Last but not least…It is simply amazing and it DOES play a huge role in our lives!

“How long did it take you to find your perfect home in Spain?” This is a question I get asked all the time.
It took me 3 years after we moved to Malaga.
I’m not saying that everyone needs as long, but what is for sure is that it takes time to know and learn the areas, to set up your priorities, re-establish your needs and link all of it together.
Be kind to yourself! 🙏🏼
Just after you have moved, don’t put yourself under additional pressure of finding your “ideal home” from the start. You won’t, it is impossible, as things and views will change once you start living as a local and not as a tourist and once you start getting more of the “inside knowledge” and building your own idea of the place.
This brings me to the next point…
Be flexible with your initial requirements for a home, as most likely it will not be your “forever home” but just a starting point from where you can start exploring, so – do compromise!
Yeah, this terrace could be bigger, or this furniture nicer, or ideally it could have had an extra room, or a garden…do remember, it most likely is not going to be forever, so treat it as temporary and be open for making bigger compromises in the beginning!
