One of the nice things about the low season, is that it gives me the opportunity to get to know (potential) partners better! The last two days, Asturias Paraíso Rural - Asturas, Cluster Turismo Rural Asturias (which intoAsturias is part of), organized a fam-trip for its members.
On Tuesday, I got to know the activities of TurAventura better when we visited Picos de Europa National Park and Ponga Natural Park during a 4*4 tour. The weather was perfect, we had incredible views on the mountains, but the most interesting where the stories of owner and local Javier, who told us all about the challening life of people living the the Picos nowadays, fighting depopulation and preserving their way of living.
The next day, we went to the mountains again, but this time, they were covered in snow! It was great to visit Asturias´ski station Fuentes de Invierno and have a tour around its facilities by the Escuela Fuentes de Invierno!

When I opened my office for intoAsturias in Soto de Llanera earlier this year, I was thinking how I could best use it (apart from working in it, of course 😊). After all, the majority of my clients visiting Asturias and surroundings are from abroad, and I´m only in touch with them online before, during and after their trip.
When I still lived in the Netherlands, I loved organizing nature activities for children. So, I decided I could do this here too!
Last week, during the Day of Asturias, I organized a Treasure Hunt, with the help of Silvia Gonzalez Molina. It was a big success with over 60 children from the neighborhood participating! During their hunt, they needed to look for Natural Treasures and do several assignments, getting to know the tracks of wild animals in Asturias and their names in Spanish and English. They also learned more about fossils and the important place of the Horreo in Asturian culture.
It was so much fun to tell the local children more about the flora and fauna in Asturias and also to teach them some English! On to the next activity!

The Hoces del Esva is one of the most impressive routes we hiked in Asturias so far. It´s located in a magical corner between Tineo and Valdes. It´s a great representation of Asturias´ nature: rivers, forests, small villages and impressive mountain views. 🏔 . Please keep in mind that part of this route is in a bad state. . The route partially leads over wooden decks and steps, but these sometimes are rotten or miss pieces. 🚧 . intoAsturias was founded in 2018 with the aim to introduce more people to the beautiful and varied nature in Asturias in the north of Spain. We do this by offering (multiple) day trips, thereby working together with local guides, nature organizations and sustainable overnight locations. This way we support local ecotourism initiatives.
My name is Debora Losa- de Block. From childhood I have a great passion for nature. I have been active at the World Wildlife Fund from a young age, first as a youth member and later as a volunteer. It was therefore no surprise that I started studying Forest and Nature Management and then International Land and Water Management. During my studies I have been involved in the protection of sea turtles in Greece and conservation of mangrove forests in Indonesia. In May 2018 I completed my doctoral research at Wageningen University in which I studied projects where nature is used to adapt to climate change.
During my research I met my Spanish husband Marcos Losa Torviso who quickly took me to his birthplace Asturias in the north of Spain. For me it was a great surprise to discover such a green piece of Spain, with a beautiful coast and high mountains at a very short distance from each other! In the years that followed, our desire grew to move to Asturias. After the birth of our daughter Esther, we took the step and we embarked on the adventure. Together we are busy setting up intoAsturias and in this way let more people experience the beautiful nature and discover Asturias!
