As the winter season is fast approaching, you can start planning your journey in advance so that you can take advantage of all the benefits that Barcelona has to offer.

Due to Barcelona’s Mediterranean climate, the city is a fascinating destination during the winter time, which means that you can still enjoy the most outstanding tourist attractions. In doing so, please be aware that even if the weather is fairly mild in winter, the temperature will go lower as compared to the sunny days, and the probability of rain is higher, as well.

You can invest your time in various activities during the winter months in Barcelona, which means you have the possibility to visit the enchanting cultural sites and, after that, you can easily immerse yourself in different forms of entertainment. However, you need to be aware that certain open-air areas might be closed or simply unpleasant to visit during particular hours, due to the arrival of the rain or strong winds.

For instance, while Museu Picasso Barcelona (http://bit.ly/2yPgGAI), Fundació Joan Miró (http://bit.ly/2z9lOE0) or Museu de la Xocolata (http://bit.ly/2z9aaZq) might allow you to enjoy a full visit because they cannot be affected by the weather, the famous observation point nearby Montjuïc Castle (http://bit.ly/2AM2Q2h) is a different story. It can be very unpleasant to spend your time at this place when it is cold, raining and windy.
At the same time, the Magic Fountain will be open only during the weekends, so please keep this in mind if you are planning to visit said attraction in particular.
Another example is the Montjuïc cable car, which can be closed under some circumstances, such as bad weather conditions, therefore it is recommended to check out the latest information on the operating hours of the cable car prior to your arrival.

On the other hand, there are many ways to enjoy the winter days in Barcelona, even when the temperatures are slowly dropping. During winter, Barcelona noticeably becomes less crowded, this being one of the main advantages of visiting the city when the summer season ended. You can also take advantage of a few special deals like, for example, the prices for a car rental (http://bit.ly/2z9KHz7) and hotel (http://bit.ly/2zO6kCp), which are usually lower in winter. Not least, the sport events (http://bit.ly/2xvN1Pb) are a must-see for every tourist, especially for football fans, who can enjoy impressive matches.

Below you can find a few recommendations to help you plan the perfect winter vacation to Barcelona:

1. If you already have these marked on your bucket list, you might also consider embarking on another unique experience: the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus tour (http://bit.ly/2AW824Q). While this bus tour also operates during the winter months and it will allow you to visit the main landmarks, the route and the schedule are both shortened. In case you decide to give it a try, it is highly recommended to buy the tickets in advance, via the internet.
2. During the winter months, it is strongly recommended to go for a last minute hotel booking because since the city is not overcrowded with tourists, you can find various great deals.
3. Be flexible about your travel plans and adjust each activity planned for your trip to suit the weather conditions! Always have an alternative plan when you want to visit open-air areas, so that you can still explore a few indoor attractions instead, if the poor weather requires it.

If you are looking for a tasty adventure, La Boqueria Mercat has the potential to provide you with an unforgettable gastronomic experience. The food market, one of the best places in the world for foodies, is a place not only rich in flavors and scents but also in an impressive historic legacy that stands for centuries and that can be felt all around its lively stall lanes.

In a short historical note, its origin can be traced way back to the 12th century when it started off as a meeting place of the local butchers who sold pigs on an open field next to the St. Josep monastery. However, this gathering of local and nearby food merchants that evolved there over the centuries was officially established and recognized as a market only in 1826 and it gradually developed into the incredible marketplace that we see today.

It has been claimed by many that La Boqueria is probably the best food market in the world, developing into a blooming and famous tourist attraction. The place is not an average public food market and, in addition to the variety of food that can be found here, from baked goods, fruit and vegetables, fine chocolates, dried fruits to fish and seafood, it also conducts regular cooking workshops and food school classes, available for all ages. What is more, you can also sign up for guided tours of the market, where you can learn all about the local Catalan cuisine.

*By publishing this post we want to declare that we are not affiliated with any political party and we are going to deliver information from a tourist perspective. If you are looking for information regarding the Catalan Independence Referendum that focuses on votes, turnout or other institutions’ responses, we kindly suggest you to visit other pages.

For the time being, the situation in Barcelona is mostly quiet, kept under control and the riots that took place did not result in a violent scene. However, the cities outside of Barcelona are currently disturbed by the violent interaction between the protesters and the police. The cities mostly affected by the disputed referendum are Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. Because Barcelona and the nearby cities are known as very popular tourist destinations in Europe, we want you to be aware of the current situation in the Catalonia region and take into consideration all the safety matters.

If you were planning to attend a FC Barcelona football game in the following weeks, you should know that, due to the recent situation, the last game versus Las Palmas was played behind closed doors. It is uncertain what will happen in La Liga in the near future and how the sellers will deal with the tickets that are already sold, but once we will have more information regarding this topic, it will be available on this page.

In spite of the current events, we advise you not to cancel your trip to Barcelona because the tourist areas are still active. In the long run, it is clear that changes will apply to Catalonia following the referendum, but once more facts about the separation will be announced, we will provide you with it on our page, as well.

For those who still want to understand the story and what the vote and the demonstrations.
Attached text written by one of our reporters yesterday (Mariona López Corominas):

My people are decided to vote no matter what, even though the Spanish police has been strongly violent to the crowd and I feel they don't understand that is happening, we are done, we can't stand this situation any more, we are sick and tired of the Spanish incompetent government, they has never respect us. Now it's our will to be a new country full of new opportunities. Visca Catalunya, we want to vote!

The Sagrada Familia is not only an icon of Barcelona and the most popular cultural landmark, but also one of the most famous cathedrals in the world. The emblematic architectural piece, which is left unfinished and still building even up to this day, is the famous work of Antoni Gaudí who exclusively dedicated the last years of his life into building this impressive masterpiece. He spent 16 years living in this cathedral, right from the beginning of the project and until the day he died in an accident, after being hit by a tram. Gaudí is now buried in the crypt of the Sagrada Familia, which was originally built as a devotion to the Holy Family and is today known as the symbol of Barcelona.
