The at  has been a great success!👏

Our 2nd to 5th-year students showcased their creativity by exploring modular wooden structures to create innovative shelter spaces.

The winning project, Kigumi, stood out for its sustainable approach and its solution to the coastal erosion in Barcelona, using Japanese joinery techniques without screws or metal elements 🔨🌿. A functional design that could become a landmark on our beaches, all while protecting the environment! 🌍💡

👏 Congratulations to all the students for their hard work, and thank you to the jury for their expertise and support, as well as , .spain and for their sponsorship.

¡Descubre "La Generación Z del Mueble", el proyecto ganador del Premio TFG Schindler de Arquitectura a la Accesibilidad 2024!  🏅🎉

Congratulations to Juan Gaitán, a 5th-year Architecture student at UIC Barcelona, for winning the 4th edition of the ROCKWOOL Sustainability Awards with his project “Tessel”!

“Tessel” beautifully merges Catalan textile tradition with urban innovation, transforming the La Verneda industrial area in Sant Adrià del Besòs. This project reuses old garments to create new textiles, fueling entrepreneurial initiatives, training, and accessible workshops.

The complex features two towers with a staggered façade system to optimize thermal performance, significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to conventional buildings.

Shoutout to Ana González, who took second place with her “Design Factory” project, creating a space for creative industries by repurposing existing metal structures and adding green corridors.

Special mention goes to Oskar Haraldsson and Adriaan Gravendel for their project on rehabilitating a residential block in La Mina, proposing new facades and communal spaces.

The ROCKWOOL Sustainability Awards celebrate UIC Barcelona Architecture Final Degree Projects that excel in sustainability.

The jury was led by Anna Noguera, this year's special guest and founder of Anna Noguera Arquitectura. It is composed by the members who drive and coordinate the award: Anna Manyes from the Technical Department of ROCKWOOL; Teresa Batlle, architect at Picharchitects/Pich-Aguilera; and Mauro Manca, professor at UIC Barcelona and co-founder of Energreen Design.

The awards were presented by Anna Manyes, along with Miquel Angel Gallardo, Business Unit Director of ROCKWOOL.

Kudos to all the winners and participants! 👏

Sustainability? Circular economy? Our 5th-year students don’t just talk about it—they make it happen!

They’ve donated the materials used to build their final project models and presentations to the Fènix Project. Wood, hardware, and textiles will be repurposed for an urban agroecology space in the garden of the Centre d’Atenció i Seguiment (CAS) in the neighborhood of . This space has been generously provided by the Public Health Agency of Barcelona (Agència de Salud Pública de Barcelona).

The Fènix Project is an urban agriculture initiative aimed at improving the employability of people undergoing treatment for drug dependencies. It strives to enhance social and labor inclusion and break the stigma often associated with these individuals.

So proud of the UIC School of Architecture class of 2024!

Our Story

Amongst these subjects, workshops and courses we highlight the compulsory subjects of Cooperation, Accessibility and Sustainability, this last subject instigated by the CEIM Chair; the Vertical Workshop, which consists of a week-long wokshop at the beginning of the course where all the students work together on a project intended to benefit the community; and lastly, the Foros cycle, a series of conferences that offer students the chance to gain first-hand knowledge of the different methods and philosophies in every facet of the field of architecture.

The UIC Barcelona School of Architecture is the only Catalan school of architecture and one of the five Spanish schools of architecture whose professional qualifications have been recognized after fulfilling all the European Union requirements for the Degree in Architecture. Right after graduation, holders of the Degree in Architecture from the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will be able to work as architects in any European Union country and the United Kingdom.
