On the day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus, Bermudians of all ages head outside to fly colorful homemade kites created with paper tissues, wooden sticks and strings 🪁
But where does this tradition come from? The legend says that it all started with a local teacher who was struggling to explain how Jesus had elevated himself to heaven until he found the analogy of the high-flying kites.
Today, thousands of locals and tourists in Bermuda follow this tradition, especially at Horseshoe Bay Beach where the annual Kite Festival is held every Good Friday to mark the special occasion.
